Network failure with Win10 upgrade

#1 Post by Toastrack »

I have my main MX11 machine and a Win10 machine which used a Homegroup to talk to each other and read files both ways, no problems.
Then the last Windoze update wrecked all that, and I understand they have removed the homegroup facility.
I have been through the recommended settings in Win10 which are alleged to reopen contact, but all to no avail.
I know the connection is there because my sync-backup program still works fine between the two machines. But MX11 "Network" in Thunar still offers the workgroup name but only sees the MX11 machine.
Please, how can I restore the file read-write option between the two machines??

to access windows 10 shares, I always have to type the share name directly.

Code: Select all

smb://servername/sharename
in the thunar location bar. I keep them bookmarked...

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Thanks. But what's puzzling me is the required server name.
W10 sees the MX files fine, but the MX machine doesn't see the W10 files, pesumably because I have not nderstood the corect servername.

9_9 After many weeks of frustration I have finally cracked it.
The last Win10 upgrade switched off the required client. Under "turn Win features on and off" I just needed to check the box against SMB 1.0/CIFS option and all began working again.
I hope this helps someone else.

This will help others even more if you mark the toipc as [SOLVED].

Please edit your original post #1 at the very top of the topic by clicking the pencil tip icon, the one circled in red in my screenshot image below (yours won't have the red circle)

and add [SOLVED] at the front of the subject? This will make it easier for others when they search the forum looking for a solution to the same problem. Thanks.
