Made a respin for testing on one of my machine. respin iso based on recent{as of time of posting this], (MX-19.1_x64_AHS_update3 iso) with the kernel 5.5.13. kept it simple and clean to provide user with freedom to tweak to their liking if it works fine for them...

so how do you change things like the default wallpaper and panel configuration? I mean, so that the new defaults take over for a newly created user account?

changing wallpaper and panel setup just right click on desktop assuming of course you were able to boot to the plasma desktop.. i have already removed xfce desktop along with the defaults configs in /etc/skel. you can tweak to your liking and copy your .configs from Home folder to the /etc/skel.

I downloaded your iso. is the theme supposed to look like your screenshot? I just got stock KDE config.

ooh my bad, screenshot was just to highlight the info i preferred leting the user pick the tweaks for themselves but you can grab the desktop theme from kde store its called "Pear Dark"
