Locking the screen while a monitor/projector is attached

#1 Post by hannlec »

Hello everyone! First of all, thank you for all your work, I've been using MX for about 6 months now, and aside from some practical issues, I'm loving it! -- I use the ctrl+alt+del key combo for locking the screen, and it works fine, but only until I plug in another monitor/projector to my laptop. While being on mirrored display mode, I can't lock the screen in any way (even from the menu by clicking on it). Another issue connected to this is that after unplugging the monitor/projector, and suspending the laptop, the screen is not locked when I wake it up (also, many times the system freezes entirely when I try to wake it up). I'm a teacher and I'm constantly plugging in and unplugging projectors when I switch classrooms, so both the lock screen and the suspend/freeze problem is very frustrating and makes me loose a lot of time, since I always have to either shut down or restart the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I disabled the screensaver and played around in the power manager, but nothing seems to help.) [MX 19.1, 64bit, Intel i5 - integrated graphics]

That's exactly what presentation mode is for: it inhibits the screen saver/blanker when you're giving a presentation. Right click on the "Computer" icon in your panel's notification area to enable and disable presentation mode.

JayM, I'm sorry but this is not a reply to the problem I pointed out. I know what presentation mode is for, but it has nothing to do with my not being able to lock the screen on mirror display mode, nor with the suspend-freeze issue.

Sorry, I read the post early this morning and I misunderstood. Can you run MX Tools/Quick System Info with both monitors attached, then immediately right-click paste in a reply?

I am having a same kind of problem. Unlocking is a problem after screensaver is on. I have to restart it. It is a Desktop.
I have done complete new OS install three times. Now running AHS. It has the same problem.
There is a problem with power management or with XFCE4 screensaver.
Thank you very much in advance.

@hannlec, try installing the antiX 4.9 kernel from MX Package Installer, Popular Applications tab, Kernels category, then at next boot select that one under the advanced options submenu in your grub boot screen. If that fixes it you can set 4.9 as your default kernel in MX Boot Options. (Apologies for not responding sooner. Real life got in the way.)
