No, I don't get video thumbnails for folders. Manjaro does have a newer version of KDE than the Debian Stretch that we are using, though. Maybe someone running Neptune's newer KDE on MX could test to see if it works for them.

For video thumbnails you need the package ffmpegthumbs installed. Then enable it in the Preview section of "Configure Dolphin" and switch Previews on in the Menu bar.

It`s all installed read post above man said that MXlinux have old KDE so that is why video folder preview not working. It all about FOLDER (with video files in there) preview not about video previews in folder.

I think problem is with ffmpegthumbs or kio-extras. On Mint it is works well. I mean it is shows cover thumbnail on video folder. Because ffmpegthumbs was installed from Ubuntu repository. I don`t know how to install Ubuntu ffmpegthumbs here on MXLinux.
And it works (shows cover thumbnail on video folder) on Manjaro because ffmpegthumbs has latest veruson from Arch repository.

I just install MX linux 19.1.

There's no option to selection Dolphin under MX test Repo tab.

So I installed install KDE Standard.

How do I set dolphin to default file manager? When I click a folder on desktop, it still open up old thunar.

I found the answer myself:

Install exo-utils by running the following command in the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install exo-utils
Run the following command in the terminal:

Code: Select all

exo-preferred-applications -c
In Preferred Applications dialog that opens: Utilities tab --> File Manager Change:
"dolphin "%s"

The previous conversations were about MX 18 and its Stretch version of KDE, though we have a newer dolphin in the test repo for 17/18.

With MX 19 and its jump to Debian Buster, none of that need apply. We may or may not be able to add a newer dolphin to MX 19's test repo in the future.

You would need to install the system settings for KDE and dependent applications. You could then set the dolphin theme and colors. However it is a bit tricky as you could end up with odd results. You have to remember that dolphin is not an XFCE application but a KDE one.

I never managed to get Dolphin to work properly in Xfce, but I wasn't prepared to install the whole of KDE to make it so. I tried in MX but couldn't get it to display with dark theme. Theoretically it should be configurable with KDE System Settings as suggested.
When used in a dedicated KDE desktop, it is hands down the best graphical file manager for Linux.
