It is part of Steam Play, essentially it works with Wine.

The Steam client already has it built into it.

Go to Settings > Steam Play ... you'll see it right there.

Edit: DO beat me to it lol

Can easily just opt into the Steam Client Beta and then you will be able to use it.

What about people who don't need Steam or don't want to use it? It might prove to be useful to have an option to install Proton separately.

Proton is a tool for use with the Steam client which allows games...
I honestly don't know if its possible to use Proton that way, but the above quote from Valve makes me think you need the steam runtime.

Arch is the only ones that are packaging Proton according to Repology.

The depends are:

Code: Select all

    wine-valve (wine-valve-git)
    vulkan-headers (vulkan-headers-git) (make)

So we'd need to package those too? Forgetaboutit if that's the case...

vulkan-headers shouldn't be a problem.

Its the wine-valve that probably would be, although maybe not if it could be used on its own, but then again its just another spin on Wine,

I think all the Valve improvement work on Proton makes it way back up anyway.
