Partition Encryption

#1 Post by tolcan »

Hi Friends,
I have 2 question. Would you please share your knowledge? Thank you in advance.

1. During encryption root/home/swap are encrypted. After installation how do you encrypt an other partition in MX?

2. Folder encryption: What are the tools you are using for?

In mx manuals, there aren't much info for the new users about the security tools. Except little bit of installation encryption.

Re: question 1 I personally use zulucrypt-gui and encrypt entire disks. The package gnome-disk-utility (MX Package Installer/Stable Repo tab) can also encrypt disks and perhaps individual partitions.

Re: question 2 folder encryption isn't necessary if the partition the folder is on is already encrypted.

As we have already luks-encryption on board, you might just use luks encryption for encrypting an additional partition.
As mentioned already, simplest GUI-tool to do so might be Disks from gnome-disk-utitlity (to be installed)
some details how to achieve this from the command line within this thread:
creating and using an encrypted partition
Alternatively use VeraCrypt for partition encryption.
