Installed and working well on my Devuan box, but again can see no need for it in MX

You can use the official Etcher Debian repository to install it on Debian and Ubuntu based Linux distributions using following commands.

$ echo "deb https://deb.etcher.io stable etcher" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/balena-etcher.list

$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 379CE192D401AB61

$ sudo apt update

$ sudo apt install balena-etcher-electron

Stage 2 - needs "dirmngr" installed (prompts on fail)
Stage 3 - needs "app-transport-https" installed (prompts on fail)

I think just installing the .deb package I linked to above would be "safer" because the user doesn't have to rely on their repositories being maintained correctly. If deb-multimedia can't get it right what hope is there for the Balena folks?

Looks like it's installable in my Debian buster box (but I'm not trying it for real). Anyway, I agree with napsix65, it seems to be entirely superfluous.
That worked, thank you!

Which program are you referring to?
