Good evening,
I would like to use a very good and free document management system (DMS) under Linux MX 19.
http://www.archivista.ch/de/media/archivista-gpl.tgz
I have no idea how to install a program with a .tgz file.
Any help is welcome.
A pleasant evening wishes you
Karl

The file you linked to consists of open source code that is used in the ArchivistaBox. There are no instructions for compiling the software, no makefiles or autobuild type files, nor any clue how to use it if you do manage to build it.
What documents there are refer to using the ArchivistaBox or installing an ArchivistaBox iso in a VM. No, the iso is not in the download.
They want to sell you their product. Since it uses open source software (along with their own proprietary software) they need to have those sources available to comply with the gpl. This they have done, perhaps following the letter of gpl v2, though certainly not its spirit.

"They want to sell you their product"
Aye. The 90MB mini offering seems like an afterthought, for-the-sake-of-public-relations.

The ArchivistaBox Community is available in the variants Cloud and ArchivistaBox Mini.
The ArchivistaMini version offers virtualization, Archivista Cloud contains ArchivistaDMS as a cloud solution.

@timkb4cq
@skidoo
Thank you both for your advice.
Thank you both for this hint!
I could have tried it for a long time.
Is there then a DMS (document management system) for private use,
in order to do the resulting things, like
- bills
- proofs of purchase
- Pension insurance letters
- and much more
to archive at home?
I use paperwork from time to time, but the possibilities are very limited.
Many thanks and a good pre-Christmas time

I think you will find that most programs in the DMS space are going to be commercial. There are some open source options but you have to be pretty familiar with database systems and setups to make the most of them.
I posted a possible program in your other thread. They have a Flatpak and it is based around the Python system.
But if you just need scanning and filing you can do it yourself. I do this in my business. (I do have a full database management system but I do not use that for document management. I use linked code numbers to connect the database records to the actual paperwork). For documents I just use an archival file system on my server. I name the files and folders appropriately so I can find the documents when I need them. I did set up a database that would support digital documents and pictures but I ended up not using it. It was just easier for us to keep the files on actual paper and link them with a code. The scanned documents just go directly into the file system and we use filenames and folder names at the time we scan them.
