[SOLVED] Mullvad VPN installation and removal

#1 Post by alexjack »

I am considering Mullvad VPN, partly because they make the right noises on their website and partly because there is a install option in the popular applications list in MX Package Installer. If I later change my mind, is it a simple matter to restore my connection to a non-VPN setup? I like to consider if a system change is reversible given my limited knowledge of Linux networking. Could someone outline the steps?

Different question, but is PIA a better option (also in the MX PI). It seems that their non-logging policy has some credibility.

Cheers

oopps, just checked, they seem to have adjusted/changed the download url, so the installer with Popular apps need to be adjusted ... asap.. :snail:

PIA just got bought out by a larger company with sketchy privacy track record--the reddits are blowing up about it.

So yes, MX+Mullvad is a topic of particular interest just now.

OK, thanks for checking! Is there a way that I can see all of the changes to my system if I install from MI PI? Does it run a script that I can review?

The Mullvad VPN install routine has been repaired in the "popular applications" section of the Package Manager. I have installed it in MX 19, and it works great now.

You can review the installer and init scripts withinthe mullvad-downloader-installer and mullvad-sysvinit-compat packages,
which we needed to make Mullvad installable in sysvinit. We haven't change anything from the mullvad package itself, which installs into /opt/MullvadVPN

I've just installed yesterday the Mullvad VPN app from the MX packages, and it works very well. My system has 3 Mullvad related packages installed : mullvad-vpn, mullvadvpn-downloader-installer, mullvadvpn-sysvinit-compat
MX 19.2 "Patito Feo" - Laptop : i5-8265u - DDRAM 16 Go - SSD Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 To - CGU Intel UHD 620HD
