Please update FreeFileSync

#1 Post by Mishimainizu »

FreeFileSync, a very good folder comparison and synchronization tool (https://freefilesync.org/) is still on version 9.3 in the stable MX Linux package installer repo, but on the developer's website version 10.18 is currently available. Any plan to update it, please?

Thanks

I think we can't update it any further on your MX 17/18 Stretch base, but we do have 10.14 in MX 19 main. I'll take a look at 10.18.

It appears that 10.18 now requires gcc-9 to compile successfully. I was able to build it in a Debian testing pbuilder environment, which has that available, but not MX 19.

Before any newbies say, "well, I'll just add the Bullseye repo temporarily and install gcc-9!", it doesn't work that way, and you're pretty much going to make your install insane and broken.

Just a note - 10.18 is available from the FreeFileSync website as a binary. Install instructions should be similar to those for Ubuntu: https://www.linuxbabe.com/ubuntu/instal ... untu-16-04

Except for the part about installing gnome desktop to create a launcher. In MX it's already installed so you just right-click on the desktop and select Create Launcher.
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Nice! That's even easier than using the MX Menu Editor which is what I was doing.
