Install city and Nu window manager themes from either stable or test repo.

Fat and grabbable.

We used to have them in mxpi popular apps in mx18.

And we also used to have rich's mod of numix and arc WM themes with more grabbable areas around the borders.

They aren't in mx19 repos. But WM themes, unlike gtk3 themes, can be reused.

Thanks asqwerth. I may give that a try but have managed to find a better alternative to what I started with. Just installing nvidia driver improved it immensely, and changing to Default-xhdpi style with Arc Dark theme is quite useable and looks really nice.

minor league issue/observation. i have a panel at top set at 50 width and expandable and set at 30 maybe for height. i noticed that sometimes - it does not expnad back but when i icon over it or near the file manage icon it contracts like it should. i can live with it totally since everything else is working wonderfully.

The notification area problems are caused by symbolic icons. It can be reproduced in Xfce 4.12 by for example starting Transmission and enable the Transmission notification area icon. Same problem.

I read that Linux Mint is working on a new API for Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce.

https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3811
Work on the XAppStatusIcon API is finished. Applets were added to Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce. LibAppIndicator was patched. We’ll have crisp icons in all environments in 19.3, HiDPI compatible, with support for symbolic icons and without rendering issues.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

Question: Can some 'cell padding' be added to Thunar, so that a detailed file list is not hard against the left column?

Correction: The MX Manual 3.3.4 Dual Monitors mentions finer control can be available with xrandr, which should perhaps be written as ARandR?

I just noticed something interesting that may give a clue about bugfixing (related to the issue described by Lupin here: viewtopic.php?f=77&t=53476&start=60#p535547 and many other users and me..) :

When I logged in as "root" I saw that there were no issues on panel. Then I customized it to exactly the same of my user account - even order of icons ... - No shades, no problems..

So, we can say that it's only at user's panel.

(In my case and generally that shade belongs to "network manager").

2 interesting points (though nothing bad, everything works):
  • On MXPI the linux-headers file for the current kernel (the one in my signature) doesn't look grey. Re-installed, same .. (Also the notification when you hover on it doesn't say it's already installed)
  • Same versions of SysVinit (2.96) on 18.3 and 19 on the same machine but on 19 during init, error messages :

SELinux .. couldn't find /etc/... profile... blah blah..

Apparmor "Are you sure you have the required privileges" (or so) .. "Failed"
None of them on 18.3 , same kernel & headers, same SysV ...

not sure if anybody has experienced this or written about it here:
when i press the mute button on my keyboard, sounds are muted well, but when i press it again to unmute , the notification is shown but the sounds are still muted and i have to go to settings > PulseAudio Volume Control and umute it manually there.
