@winemaker - I'm glad you posted the link to the article. Very useful IMO to give us some ideas on how to improve our gazelle installer (for MX and antiX).

I have been thinking about adding guided partitioning to the installer for a while, but I haven't worked out all the details yet. I believe adding that to our installer will be easier than trying to write a calamares module to support the live system. I am not aware of any feature requests to add this, and so close to release time it isn't my highest priority.dolphin_oracle wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 1:00 pmwe looked at calamares in the 17 series because we were interested in the guided partitioning setup. But we were going to have to write a whole module to support our live system.
Not only would this arrangement benefit antiX as well as MX, it means we don't inherit megabytes of bloat from calamares and dependencies, and bugs from a whole new module for catering to our live system.
Our installer has been around for over 10 years longer than the Calamares installer has been around, so it's a tried and tested technology. In fact recent work included cleaning up the cruft left behind from the old MEPIS OS center, which has been gone since 2006.

Bloat, world peace, an end to poverty, and enough steam coming out of Eadwine Rose's ears to power the town's turbine generators for 3 weeks, because it can't install the NVIDIA drivers.anticapitalista wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 12:56 pmWhy? What does it offer what the current installer lacks?
Thanks Anti. Wouldn't have been possible without the rest of you guys though.anticapitalista wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2019 8:13 amBig thumbs up for this post and for all your work on improving our installer.
