The same issue, no sound until I run 'alsactl init' in terminal. I selected my sound card then moved the volume slider down and up, then tried a video. No sound in the video until I opened a terminal and issued the above command.

Also, I forgot to mention that in the live usb, both MX-19b2.1 and MX-19b3, there is an issue with the notification panel. The area between the clock, right below the logout/shut down button, and the default icons is white, even behind the file manager and Firefox icons. It is correct when installed. Does it on all laptops/tables used to test MX-19 so far ( CF-29, CF-31 and CF-D1 ).

I will go back to the CF-31 soon to check out the volume slider thingy.

Moved from [Hardware /Configuration]
Hi.
I installed MX19B3 - in addition to minor details, the following was noticed: when an external USB sound card is connected ( Creative X-Fi SB0720), the card is recognized and works normally, but its volume knob controls the sound by the built-in(!) card (adjusts the volume and mutes the sound, at any settings).
Notebook - lenovo x200s. Are there any thoughts on fixing (under *buntu 16-18 everything works fine, but there is systemd)

PS. And/or (may be) who met where drivers for Creative X-Fi 0710 (PCMCIA)?
Thank you in advance

Back on the CF-31. Moved the volume slider down and up but no sound in the video I am testing with until I go into terminal and enter 'alsactl init'.

have you tried not playing around with mx-select-sound-card and just manipulating the audio sinks in pavucontrol? On the last tab (configuration) you can enable and disable various combinations. For instance, I have mine set to use my internal sound card for audio output only (no mic) but enabled my yeti mic for input only (it also has an output and shows up as a sound card).

I might have asked this previously, but could not find it via search

How do I uninstall both FF69 & ESR so that I can install Waterfox

Regards

Jack
you need to remove libreoffice-help files. for some reason unknown to me, they require a web browser and the way the dependencies are set up is stupid. they require specific web browsers in a list. waterfox isn't on it, so you either need to keep a firefox or remove the libreoffice help files.

I rebooted back into the USB stick and went to Multimedia/PulseAudio Volume Control in the main menu. It showed that the profile used is Analog Stereo Duplex. No change to the sound issue if I change profile to Analog Stereo Output. On the Playback tab, as well as the Output Devices tab, it shows the sound playing in the video. To get sound I need to go to the terminal and 'alsactl init'.

I did an update (9 available) to the live stick when on the CF-D1 and now on the CF-31 with the updated stick there is no issue with the white area in the notification panel. FYI

Re: MX-19 Beta 3 Feedback, Dutch keyboard

#68 Post by gsm »

Just for your information:

I am in the Netherlands and trying to use the MX-19 Beta 3 live system in the Dutch language (Nederlands).
Selecting the Dutch language configures automatically also the Dutch Qwerty keyboard as default.

Unfortunately the Dutch layout keyboard is hardly used in the Netherlands. Almost all people in the Netherlands use the English (US) International keyboard, mostly with € at the 5 key. So i have to open the Control panel, Keyboard and add the US international, with € at 5, keyboard and then delete all other keyboards. Then remaster the USB stick live system. This is only the case in the Netherlands itself and not in the surrounding countries, like Belgium and Germany

The € can be typed by pressing the Alt key at the right of the space bar (keep it pressed) and then also press the 5 key.
This Alt key could also be used as the Compose key to type special characters, but that has to be configured first with Linux systems.
In Windows 10 it is configured for the Netherlands, during the installation, to combine e.g. the " and e automatically to ë when typed sequentially.

Please refer to:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/358/how ... ike-%C3%AB

Refer also to a very confusing communication with Logitech, to order a correct keyboard for the Netherlands:
https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1167 ... rd-layout/

Some of the text from the link above:
By the way, I just got an answer from Logitech, which might help other people with the same issue.

Basically it says:
"In order to order the US International Layout you have to select the Dutch layout when presented with the Keyboard Layout Menu. In the Netherlands most keyboards are QWERTY (US International) and that is why Dutch is listed instead of US International, as otherwise Dutch customers would not find this layout."
Not sure, but i believe that Ubuntu and linux Mint choose almost the right default keyboard for the Netherlands.
Edit: Linux Mint Live is only English (US). The default installed keyboard for Dutch language is English (US,international, with dead keys).

Kind regards,

GSM
The Netherlands

I wonder about the sysvinit/LightDM restart/shut down bug.

Is it related to:
Debian/systemd?
systemd-shim?
LightDM?

Maybe antiX or Devuan can fix this if no systemd is present? I think reviewers might mention this and it should probably be mentioned in release notes as a known bug. It stays a couple of seconds on my machine.

If it can't be fixed it can't be fixed, but I hope it can be fixed in nosystemd distros.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

If that "US international, with € at 5" the proper keyboard which shall be the default for Netherland?.
To check on the command line I got this details:

Code: Select all

setxkbmap -query
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: us
variant: euro
options: compose:rctrl-altgr
