It appears on both default and on new Antix kernel, when booted with systemd.

Btw, nvidia from test repo works fine on Lenovo T510 with Optimus settings selected in BIOS (hybrid intel + nvidia mode).
Thanks for testing that--dolphin_oracle just fixed a little quirk in the Nvidia installer to make that possible now. :number1:

That 435.21 driver is good for builds up to and including 5.3 kernels, but we'll need more testing on 5.3 kernels to see how the performance actually is on those. The only one I know of so far is the backport of the 5.3 Siduction kernel we have in the test repo, though I'm sure there will be an antiX 5.3 kernel very soon.

Tested in Virtualbox with efi.
Live boot defaults to Customise Boot (text menus) requiring user input, but the text on some sections finish below the bottom of the display making it impossible to see the full list of available choices from the third screen onwards. I am fairly certain we will have people and reviewers discover this and either grumble or report it as a negative.

Installed using whole disk and full disk encryption. The installer side notes under encryption claim the password requires an 8 characters minimum length, so I went ahead and tried a simple 1234 (4 characters only) The install went ahead as normal, booted fine and it worked with the 4-character encryption password, so I re-installed using only a 2 character decryption password and it was accepted, kinda defeats the encryption.

Tested Gparted by adding some additional partitions to a 2nd drive I had provisioned for the VM and received multiple superuser authentication prompts after closing Gparted. Should we be suppressing the auto mount feature post gparted usage? I would hate to have to close 20 or so authentication prompts if I had multiple unmounted partitions as do some people I know.

USB stick - Takes unusually long time for Thunar to open and show USB memory stick content...

with VB I usually have to use scale mode to see the entire screen of boot options.

I just did a quick check of MX19-beta-3 and it it looks good. Some observations running it Live.

1. Memory usage according to HTOP is ~585-606MB on a Live USB. This is immediately after booting up with nothing else running and is essentially the same as the prior versions. I'm glad it didn't increase.

2. Opening Thunar is now almost immediate - about a half second or less. Using MX-18.1, 18.3 or 19-beta-2.1 would all take 4-5 seconds to open, and sometimes ~10 (!). This happens only when first opening after booting up and logging in. Subsequent openings will be pretty close to immediate. With 19-beta-3 it opens essentially immediately the first time it is opened after booting up and logging in.

3. I see LibreOffice now opens when running Live. For those that are not aware, that problem was when running MX19-beta-2.1 and you could not open LibreOffice, but only when running Live. It would open fine when installed on hardware. The problem was AppArmor and was detailed here https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 03#p528403, but now everything looks good.

4. The problem of displaying icon information with a short text window when hovering the mouse over a bottom horizontal Panel remains. This is in reference to my post on the now closed MX19-beta-2.1 feedback page https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 32#p531232.

5. User danielson mentioned that Conky cannot be moved with alt+left mouse click (it could with MX18). I got the same results. Although I can still relocate it using the Conky Manager and editing the selected Conky, either with the GUI or the configuration file (accessible with Conky Manager) just like prior versions.

Overall it's looking very good.

this is specific to the volumicon that displays in the panel. the best I can do right now with that is you can have the percentage displayed on the slider bar by adjusting preferences. you might also be interested in switching to the pulseaudio plugin that is available for the panel. it lives outside the notificiation area so the icon is a little larger by default anyway, but the percentages display as they should. its available in the panel plugin area.

Actually the issue involves all the little pop-up windows that one would get that give a brief explanation of what the icon in the panel is whenever the mouse cursor is hovered over it. For example the Panel icon for adjusting the monitor brightness will display a small pop-up window which just says "Computer" when the mouse is hovered over it (of course when that window can actually be seen).

My original post mentioned only the speaker icon, but I was not thorough in my testing. Playing more with the new 19-beta-3, I find that I cannot see any of the small information pop-up windows with a horizontal Panel on the bottom.

I know it's a small matter. I just thought it'd be an easy fix since MX-18 had no problem with it, but 19-beta-3 does.

Edit: After more testing I found that some display above (visible) and some below (not visible). The following panel icons appear in the panel with the resultant message when the mouse cursor is hovered over it:

Bluetooth (no message displays)
Speaker ("Master 61%" displays below)
Update ("3 new updates available" displays above)
Unmount ("Unmount" displays below)
Circle icon ("Computer" displays below)
Computer box ("Ethernet network connection 'Wired connection 1' active" displays below)
Paperclip icon (no message displays)
Time ("Fri 04 Oct 2019 08:14:10 PM EDT" displays above)
Green icon ("Log Out..." displays above)

So under the conditions I set in my original post (https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 32#p531232), in MX19-beta-3, some pop-up windows will display above the Panel, and some below.

Jerry3904, thanks for the explaination in your post #29.

A kind of workaround until someone finds a better solution might be this:
Set a key-combo, f.i. "Alt+Pause" to reload conky,
e.g. via this command line like this:

Code: Select all

xfconf-query -c xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts -p "/commands/custom/<Alt>Pause" -n -t string -s "killall -SIGUSR1 conky"
After pressing [Alt] and the [Pause] key together conky display will be reloaded and with [Alt]+ left mouse will now be re-movable.
