The times on mx-19 remained the same for me with the antiX 4.9 kernel.

But I'll wager that you don't have a Pentium 3558U 1.7GHz CPU, do you?

A wager you would win!

I do have older hardware I could test on, and past experience testing previous MX versions tends to show that the 4.9 kernel is a better fit for those older machines.

You guys made my day!

I have Samsung3 Chromium with third party custom Bios and I only got sound working on MX18.3 after getting the driver from GalliumOS. After reinstall this same fix is not working any more.

Today I updated Bios and tried MX-19 Beta 2.1 and I have sound! Yay! :number1:
I hope final release comes with the same 4.19 kernel.

For me, it takes 4 secs for the icon to appear in Thunar if it's already open, and 8 secs for it to open Thunar.

Those times are the same as in MX-18. I don't have another distro installed; can you suggest one I can test with please?

Well, I don't know what to tell you. When I went back to test the automount, I got the same times as Chris. Go figure...
Thanks for the responses anyway.

CookDaddy, did you ever get your front USB ports working? Someone's just reported having the same issue on a ThinkCentre with MX-18.3 so I was wondering if you found a solution that might also work for him.

Edit: see https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 96#p531296. It's not a MX19b2.1 issue or an 18.3 issue, it's a caused by a BIOS bug in IBM ThinkCentres. They won't detect USB devices except during booting so the devices have to be connected before the computer is turned on, or else the machine has to be rebooted after they're plugged in before it will see them. It may be able to be fixed by flashing a different BIOS version, per what MXuser59 discovered on the Lenovo support forum.

This was a comment from the MX Blog post on the beta:
https://mxlinux.org/blog/mx-19-beta-2-1 ... r-testing/
1 desktop dual booted win7/mx18.3
1 desktop mx18.3
1 laptop dual booted mx18.3/mx19beta2.1
1 laptop mx18.3 32bit
Only problem so far on mx19beta2.1 unable to access any of my 3 iPads or 2 iPhones! Using “idevice” but no problem on any of my mx18.3
mx Linux is the perfect replacement for windows 7 users...
Thanks to the MX/Antix teams

Anyone else facing problems with accessing Apple idevices? I don't use them so can't test this, but thought it pertinent to raise it here.

Re: MX-19 Beta 2.1 Feedback

#589 Post by Stuart_M »

I found an anomaly in MX-19 beta 2.1 that is not present in MX-18.

In 19beta2.1, when hovering the mouse cursor over the Panel speaker icon, a small window will pop-up displaying the volume percentage. With the vertical Panel on the left, that window will be displayed to the right of the Panel, with the vertical Panel on the right, the window will display to the left of the Panel, and with the horizontal Panel on the top, the window will be displayed below the Panel.

So far so good. The problem with MX 19b2.1 is when the horizontal Panel is on the bottom, the pop-up window will "display" off screen below the Panel. There are only a couple pixels of the top of that window that can be seen (you have to look closely) - the rest of the window is off the bottom of the screen.

The closest I came to a solution was to adjust the "Row size (pixels)" in "Panel Preferences" to a value of 31 or smaller. But then the icons become very small.

When sized 32-49 (the default is 35), only a couple pixels of the top of the pop-up percentage window will show on the bottom edge of the screen, the rest of that window will not be visible because it is off the screen below the Panel.

Above 49 the icons arrange in a double-row pattern and the pop-up window will then appear above the bottom Panel (in my testing the speaker icon was on the top row of icons), but the icons are way too large.

Another method is to unlock the Panel and move it up a few pixels from the bottom of the screen, bringing it down as close to the bottom edge as you can without it snapping to the edge. Now the pop-up window will display as it should on the top of the Panel, but there will be a gap on the bottom edge.

MX 18.3 has no problem displaying this pop-up percentage window, correctly showing it on all four sides when the mouse cursor hovers over the speaker icon. The default 40-pixel size is just right for me, and testing on the bottom horizontal side with other pixel sizes keeps the window displaying properly (above the Panel).

No, it's still a mystery. However, with the few distros I tested I was given an error upon boot:
ACPI BIOS Error (bug) \_SB.PCIO._OSC Excess arguments ASL declares 5 ACPI requires 4
This error occurred on the live-usb as well as installed on the computer. The research I've found calls the error inconsequential. Do you agree?
