MX-19beta-2.1

I see the problem the UUID for data partition in 18.3 is identical to the UUID for the 512MB vfat partiton. Not sure if changing the partition UUID in 19 beta to the one in 18.3 would resolve the problem.
And more to the point for feedback why it happened.
Other than having to mount the partition at each boot the Data partition acts normally in when mounted.
not according to your 2 fstab snippets. UUIDs shouldn't change.

UUID for /dev/sdc3 on from your 18.3 fstab

Code: Select all

#Entry for /dev/sdc3 :
UUID=184c55f9-094f-40b6-85f2-07a47f4e8fb2	/media/data_SSD	ext4	defaults	0	0
which matches the disk manager image in your 18.3 screenshot.

and the one show in your 19 fstab

Code: Select all

#Entry for /dev/sdc1 :
UUID=7B34-0958	/media/sdc1	vfat	defaults,utf8,umask=0	0	2
which matches the checked box in your disk manager image for 19

so can you do this.

1. on 19, check the box marked for sdc3 but do not close disk manager.
2. in a terminal,

Code: Select all

cat /etc/fstab
and lets see if it makes the change.

I tried first without checking the box to install unsupported driver (1stddm.log) and then secondly checking the box to install the unsupported driver (2ndddm.log).

Chris
thank you, I think I see the issue.

could you try this:

Code: Select all

apt-get install --install-recommends --reinstall bumblebee-nvidia nvidia-legacy-390xx-driver primus primus-libs-ia32:i386 nvidia-settings virtualgl virtualgl-libs:i386
It ran but didn't work. Terminal output attached.

Chris
chris,

can you provide the output of

Code: Select all

nvidia-detect
please.

It looks like your card maxes out with the nvidia-legacy-390xx-driver, which is supposed to work with primus, but there is a conflict between primus and one of the driver libs. I haven't been able to resolve it.

tagging stevo on this one.

***edit***

I'm thinking the primus stuff is set so that it only works with nvidia-driver.

so can we skip that?

Code: Select all

apt-get install --install-recommends --reinstall bumblebee-nvidia nvidia-legacy-390xx-driver nvidia-settings -s
seems to bring in a lot of stuff, but will optirun work?

Are you using different repo mirrors? Maybe the problem is with them.

(FYI I've temporarily disabled the netbook's monitor in Settings/Display because it's annoying having to use non-full-sized apps, in case anyone noticed the resolution within my QSI.)

I'm not seeing this on my production system at home, but I can reproduce the situation at work.

However, I'm not sure the cause. the machine at work has a flakey internet connection, and is a very slow machine. I can monitor the /tmp folder for the mxpi temp folder to be created. On the occasions where mxpi fails (and it doesn't always), the temp folder never gets created.

might be a factor I guess. the timeout is set to 5 seconds. but you would think that if I could get to the part with the timeouts, the tmp folder would have already been created, because that's where the repo info downloads to.

I'd guess not as it works on my slow computer running live on USB2.0. Debian Backports takes several seconds to come up, like 15 or more, but it eventually does. I'd say the slow or flaky Internet connection is the issue, though I can't say why it's not creating the temp directory.
