Needed acpi_backlight=vendor etc to fix on Nvidia-based Laptop
What's the "etc" part? Is this boot parameter something that needs to go in the Manual/Wiki?
Yeah, sorry, Jerry, I was in a rush again ;)

Edit /etc/default/grub as root - change the line:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
Then do

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

On MX Date & Time > Hardware clock: Time zone for Hardware Clock shows neither choice checked. Yet one is functioning (UTC by default IIRC) and should already be checked IMO. The man file to hwclock says this will show which:

Code: Select all

     -l, --localtime
       -u, --utc
              Indicate which timescale the Hardware Clock is set to.
But for me I think that only provides the time:

Code: Select all

$ sudo hwclock --utc
2019-09-09 04:56:19.243412-04:00
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

The previous build (19.9.03) does not have this problem and is the one included in MX 19b2.1 so, just this time, try it without updating the installer.
Thanks; things are happening so fast I'm having trouble keeping up!

Thought i had "non-mobile" conky issue resolved with dual monitor, but after reboot this a.m., it would not move as usual with alt+
Went over again to MX Conky and unchecked "Desktop 1" to check it back again, and things work as before.
Not a huge issue, just an annoyance.

On the bright side of things... never saw MX boot up so fast!!!
(even faster than Solus - which up until now, had been the fastest on my system).

My external monitor either isn't being detected properly or isn't being used properly, resulting in a too-short panel. I'm booting a live USB with persist_all on a netbook with a 1024x600 internal screen and also an external 1280x1020 monitor connected which I'm using as my primary monitor. The second monitor displays the desktop and it's in Settings/Display, where I've set it as my primary monitor, yet the screen always has the panel only 600px high, and also the second monitor isn't showing up in Quick System Info. If I run MX Tweak and change the panel from vertical/left to horizontal/bottom then back again it changes to the full 1020px height, but that only lasts for the current session. I forgot to check whether both monitors' resolutions are shown in QSI after I do that.

I missed some news maybe.. I went and followed my instruction file to see if all is operational, and one of the things I do after installing nvidia is

Code: Select all

rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
But it is not there.

Is it removed by default now?

In that same area, I haven't activated the screentearing fix yet, it seems to not be needed thus far, and neither is arandr to remember the screen positions. Of course that can still change after I have rebooted a few times more, time will tell.

At some point the Synaptic icon disappeared from the notification area.
Ran MX Updater and it's back now.
Speaking of notification area, there is still crowding and overlapping going on.

Code: Select all

rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
But it is not there.

Is it removed by default now?

Speaking of notification area, there is still crowding and overlapping going on.
Same here - seems like the Notification Area (System Tray) isn't expanding more than 4 icon widths, so others get squashed and are behind others
