I encountered a little looks thing, moved the panel to the bottom and got this. The wired Synaptic icon behaved the same way.

Yep, this has happened through the Alphas as well, but nothing tried so far has fixed it.

Indeed, I tried changing the size of the panel, nope, still like that. I DO always change my icon theme, so maybe then it'll get sorted. I'll report back if it does when I get back into the beta.

My beloved used for years now nuvola-icon-theme package is gone


Is it possible to port this baby over? I like NONE of the alternatives, and I have been looking around for a long time back when to find something I liked... *sniff*



Anyway.. to report back.. I blanked the background first.. and...

I made screenshots in 19 and didn't save them to my backup drive....

OWH!! I can mount the drive *snort* I learn something new every day haha.


Here is the system tray with the blanked background:

You can see something isn't right, when the background is colored you don't see those little lines.


Now.. when I click that expand button twice the weirdness is gone.

And I have been able to repeat this with all the icon themes.

They have a .deb package for Stretch but nothing yet for Buster. But it's just an icon package so...

If you have spent WEEKS looking for something you like it becomes more than "just" an icon package

I meant that it shouldn't be complicated to forwardport to Buster since it's just icons with no dependencies and stuff. :)

I wouldn't do this until the final, but as a test, I did it with the Beta... result might be helpful to others in the future:

I backed up everything using Aptik - packages, settings, home (all of it, config and Vbox VMs etc), mounts (only swap, as it's a file. Aptik just edits fstab)... everything. Remember, you have a choice what not to restore, and if a package is already installed and up to date, it's not touched. So I backed up all of my themes, but didn't need to restore any of them same with Fonts and Icons

Anyway, after restoring so far, I can't tell the difference between the 18.3 Desktop and the 19 Beta - Whisker menu has the same entries, Panel is the same. Firefox is identical - Thunderbird too. Oh, I needed to install chromium-sandbox to get Chromium up and running.

I'll do some more checks later, but it seems like the easiest way to get everything running how you like.

I found something in the action buttons that is not working right.. but if that belongs here.. I have no idea how to file a bug report on XFCE or anything though (I looked in the past, came back with my hair frazzled and fried).

In the panel you can put something called Action Buttons, selecting the...

This SHOULD have two images showing, but one of the two doesn't have an image so they get put on top of each other (I think), when I uncheck the shutdown button the restart function appears.. or rather, it is a blank area which pops up Restart when hovering over it.

This is independent of the icon theme, I can select others with the same effect.

If you select that dropdown and change it to session you get a text menu where you can also see that things are missing.

If you check the "Invert buttons" box they will appear one on top of the other. But they used to appear side by side, which I liked.
