Iridium Browser install Bug

#1 Post by Kreative »

The way I understand it, Iridium Browser does not spy on you like other Chromium based Browsers does.
https://iridiumbrowser.de/downloads/debian

Errors
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Iridium is available in the MX Stable repository. You should really install that using MX Package Installer (MXPI) rather than downloading something from the Internet and installing that. Make sure that nothing else that uses apt (Synaptic or the MX Updater) is running at the same time or you'll get those errors when trying to install Iridium because MXPI can't get an exclusive lock on apt.

I get this error message now:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
iridium-browser : Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 7) but 6.3.0-18+deb9u1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

You must have done something to your system because it installed for me. Try running

Code: Select all

sudo apt autoremove --purge
in a terminal (with MXPI not running) then retry the installation in MXPI. If it still doesn't work, please run MX Tools/Quick System Info, then right-click paste into a reply. (Quick System Info automatically copies the information to the clipboard and formats it properly for the forum so all you have to do is paste it.)

Did that, rebooted, tried again, same problem... At least now SPM has updated Iridium to current version.
SPM Error - iridium-browser:
Depends: libstdc++6 (>=7) but 6.3.0-18+deb9u1 is to be installed
*NOTE: 6.3.0-18+deb9u1 is installed, I'm not sure if anything else needs to be installed?

Please edit your previous post using the pencil icon to wrap the information inside of code tags. Example:
log file contents, configuration file contents and terminal text go here
Code: Select all

to make it look like this, which is a lot easier to read for large amounts of text:
1. It really stands out as being separate from the text that you're typing due to the different background and font colors
2. It also puts it inside of its own little frame with its own scrollbars, making it easier to navigate.
You can just select the text by dragging your mouse over it while holding the left button down then click the </> icon in the forum's editor's toolbar. Thanks.

I see the problem. You've added a Debian 10 (Buster) repository to a Debian 9 (Stretch)-based Linux distro, MX-18.3. You need to remove that repository, which you should be able to do in Synaptic, then close Synaptic and run

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt autoremove --purge
in a terminal. Hopefully no Debian 10 libraries got installed on your system in the meanwhile and we're still able to save your current MX installation. If not, you'll need to reinstall MX, and if that's the case there's an option in the installer to preserve your current /home directory and save your data.

From the Iridium website that you provided a link to
Currently, Iridium Browser is available for the following operating systems:

Windows 7+ macOS X 10.10+ Debian 10+, Mint 17+, Ubuntu 16.04+ (all 64-bit) SUSE Leap 15.0 / 42.3 and Tumbleweed Fedora 28, 29 and 30 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7+ / CentOS 7+
