How frequently does synaptic check for updates, and is there any way of controlling the frequene of this on MX 11?

Hopefully MX11 was a typo?
Synaptic doesn't check until you open it and click 'Mark All Upgrades'.
MX Updater checks at a random time. Details can be found by right-clicking the Updater icon and selecting 'MX Updater Help'.
