I just took a look and discovered this in the MESS Wiki.
AS OF VERSION 0.162, MAME AND MESS HAVE BEEN COMBINED INTO A SINGLE EMULATOR!
So it's no longer a separate project.
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

Yes, I just installed it and played a bit of Space Taxi.
If you read the docs that come with it you'll see that they aren't allowed by debian to distribute the necessary ROM images so you have to download them separately and move them into the proper folders for Vice to work.

The names of the available emulators are:

vsid, the SID player
x64, the fast C64 emulator
x64sc, the accurate C64 emulator
x64dtv, the C64DTV emulator
x128, the C128 emulator
xvic, the VIC20 emulator
xpet, the PET emulator
xplus4, the PLUS4 emulator
xcbm2, the CBM-II emulator (CRTC models)
xcbm5x0, the CBM-II emulator (VIC-II models)
xscpu64, the SCPU64 emulator

You can run each of them by simply typing the name from a shell or by configuring your window manager for example to use them to open disk images.

I've had that Space Taxi d64 file for over 15 years. I don't remember where I got it.

AVOID Mess If u you make it work, please let us in on whist have choosing Mess without real choice.

Good luch findng reliable ROMS, which not ony have to ge gemuinee,b ut also compatible withe version Of MAME/MESS you re using.
