Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)
Re: Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)
I converted all my systems to Linux in 2012 and run MX on my main desktop, as well as my backup laptop, since sometime last year. All my computer use is accomplished with Linux. Counting family computers I maintain, I have 8 systems running only Linux. It's been 4 years since I ran into anything I needed to use a computer for that required Windows.
Re: Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)
I guess I would add that I use Linux (MX and antiX) for a few additional items beyond those commonly mentioned less frequently including:
-- web development (Wordpress almost exclusively)
-- website management (18 Wordpress sites)
-- genealogy research
-- historical research
-- authoring/ blogging
-- 6 sigma work
-- coding (css, html, php and a few sundry items)
-- software testing
-- requirements development
-- podcasting
-- image processing
-- mentoring via teleconferencing and VOIP
-- early childhood and primary school education/ teaching
-- teaching German (to my grandsons)
a few fun items...

Edit: a future item.... my 6 year old grandson and I are planning on building a radio telescope so we can listen to Jupiter... kind of a small adventure for us.

I also have a similar problem, but it's Autodesk Inventor, and Mastercam I need to run. I know there's cad software for Linux, but I already know the Windows programs. I've been wanting to learn Virtualbox well enough, install Winblows, and see if I can get at least Inventor running in Linux. I think Mastercam might be a bit more difficult though.I can't use MX Linux for Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. I'm simply more used to those over GIMP and Inkscape.
As far as Linux usage it's about the same as the others. I can happily say, at home, I'm windows free.

so, it seems that mx is used for almost everything in a daily basis. But rarely as a server...

Rather depends on what you mean by "server". If you mean Web-Server (Host), I think that's probably accurate because most people buy shared hosting and that is generally CentOS. If you mean home base file share style server, there are many here who do that. This thread is hardly 'statistically representative'.xali wrote: Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:07 am so, it seems that mx is used for almost everything in a daily basis. But rarely as a server...

I'm like your wife in liking xfce. I, also, like antiX with LightDM. (I think I've made that amply clear almost everywhere. Slim is not for me.oops wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:09 pm .... Yes, slim is for a single session open at the same time, so not perfect for me.manyroads wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:12 pm I'm like your wife in liking xfce. I, also, like antiX with LightDM. (I think I've made that amply clear almost everywhere. Slim is not for me.)

Pretty much everything. I have win7 and win 10 in Vm's but the only time I start them is to update them when I remember. Windows is just spyware. I dumped windows about 2 years ago and never looked back.
