For a few dollars one can purchase a bootable MX dvd or usb stick.
If you don't wish to use Rufus/Microsoft, and you can't make a usable live-MX with your present distro, why not pay up and stop complaining?

When you say WinPE are you referring to ISO images or windows based environment builders? On the contrary I don't use windows. I bought Macrium Reflect when i was a windows user. That's one of the WinPE solutions i use purely to backup my systems secondly i have other WinPE solutions to securely wipe drives and to run live usb antivirus solutions. Finally You CAN "do Window$ things" on Linux AND there are cross platform solutions too (I'm sure you know that already). I tested WoeUSB AND Unetbootin which is cross platform too (I'm sure you already know that)...Virtualbox? VLC VMware? Libreoffice? WPS Office? Firefox? I'm sure you know where i'm heading to...They "do Window$ things" on Linux I've tested WoeUSB and Unetbootin ...oh Yeah which are cross platform and "do Window$ things on Linux. I'm only looking for a Rufus alternative for Linux to complement my staying away from Window$. WoeUSB and Unetbootin cut it. My objective is to find a solution that can handle WinPE based ISO's. Both for legacy and secure systems.

@brolly
Hello! I realise you're looking for something for Linux, but I strongly recommend YUMI for Windows. I vaguely remember trying it in WINE, but I don't recall whether it worked the same as in Windows or not. In Windows, it was always my go-to. Good luck in your quest.

Huh? Since when has asking an open question been complaining? If you go back a few pages you come a statement i made about buying genuine usb sticks directly from their website? Lol. Go back to my original question for clarity. this thread is not about trying to make a usable live MX of my present distro lol. Once again if you read the first few responses in this thread you will realise that MX Live USB Maker cannot handle WinPE based environments. I'm sure you now understand why i am asking for recommendations for a Rufus alternative.

Thanks for your response. WoeUSB and Unetbootin answered my question. I'm not keen on using WINE.fasterfaster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:53 pm @brolly

Thanks for the info I appreciate itbaldyeti wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 2:58 pm What i've done in the past (for a MBR-partitioned, fat32-formatted stick), is extract the MX ISO content to the root of the stick, then install syslinux to the stick. This way you do not end with a read-only stick as you would with "dd". Works for me as an installer or rescue tool. If you are going to use persistence, the MX USB Maker with ext4 is a better, supported solution.

There is no need to always quote the full text of the previous reply, it just takes up unnecessary space and server bandwidth.

Point taken. Apologies for my noob error
