If anyone uses unetbootin make sure it's a recent version (>625) or the Live USB and persistence features may not work.

no, it is not important that unetbootin is latest...
i use ver. unetbootin-506.pet converted in .deb
and it works perfectly...

Per the MX User Manual it's important. Some versions prior to 625 are incompatible with the antiX full-featured USB features. Perhaps you were lucky and happened to get an older version that isn't incompatible.
Anyway, the MX Live USB Maker (LUM) can be downloaded from GitHub and installed on any Linux distro, and on Windows there's Rufus.
Let's wait and see what luck brolly has with LUM after re-creating the partition table, or which particular SanDisk USB thumbdrives he has (which may be one of the ones known to have issues.)

MX Live USB maker give an "Error encountered in the usb creation" Ive tried different advanced options without joy. The DD option completed writing successfully but my computer gives me a no boot media error when i select SanDisk in the advanced boot options in my bios
The writing log is as follows:

My SanDisk models are legit. I bought them directly from the Sandisk website. They work well with Rufus the capacity shown on Rufus and MX Live USB writer are consistantmasterpeace wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 1:16 am I was also having similar issue with live medium ... until i found that the one i used for live medium is a fake-GB chinese flash drive , it is listed as a 8GB and showed 8GB on the computer but in reality only having physical 128MB flash drive forced on usb3 (i tore it open after failing more than 4 times on RUFUS) . I got it for free as a bonus from local coffee shop .
Please check the serial number listed on the package and compare it to what terminal says ...
Hope this helps ...

Ive tried that method. No luck with it.JayM wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 10:00 pm Use GParted, select the USB, delete all existing partitions, click apply, go to Device/Create Partition Table and create a new msdos partition table, then try MX-LUM again. Be careful that you've selected the USB stick in GParted first so you don't accidentally delete hard disk partitions.
Re: Please recommend a Rufus alternative for Linux that ACTUALLY works like Rufus
The idea of MX Live USB Maker is to create either from MX/antiX ISO's a LiveUSB in full featured mode (to enable persistence) or to create a DD-dumped LiveUSB in readonly mode from iso-hybrid ISO's.brolly wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:27 am MX Live USB maker give an "Error encountered in the usb creation" Ive tried different advanced options without joy.

The ISO you tried above might be a WinPE based/created ISO, i.e. it is neither a MX/antiX ISO nor probably a iso-hybrid ISO.
Even if dd-dump succeeded with WInPE or winOS based ISO's, does not mean that the create USB is bootable at all.
In addition any other attempt to use dd-based USB writer like Etcher, Mintstick will not make a WinPE iso boot neither.

Yes the ISO i was trying to write is based on WinPE. Does this mean i should stick to using Rufus in a Window$ environment?fehlix wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 9:06 amThe idea of MX Live USB Maker is to create either from MX/antiX ISO's a LiveUSB in full featured mode (to enable persistence) or to create a DD-dumped LiveUSB in readonly mode from iso-hybrid ISO's.brolly wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:27 am MX Live USB maker give an "Error encountered in the usb creation" Ive tried different advanced options without joy.
