Indeed. I am beginning to suspect that some sort of "auto correction" is going on but I'm glad that you caught it. Thanks. :)

We do not recommend using Rufus to create live usbs. We recommend using one of our live-usb-maker tools. If someone is starting with only Windows, then instead of telling people to use a 2nd usb stick to store their data, we recommend that after booting with a Rufus live-usb, they plug in the 2nd stick and run live-usb-maker and select clone mode to clone the Rufus live-usb into a full featured live-usb. You can then store all of your data on the one stick using the ~/Live-usb-storage/ directories.
For some reason, I can't find a download for a helper utility which would help someone to make a bootable USB stick from within Windows.

As far as the two USB sticks hack goes ... I don't want to make things complicated. Anyone knows what two USB sticks do. If someone just managed to boot MX Linux and likes it, she/he will most likely don't mind plugging an additional one in to maybe safe "something" for further testing. The main goal is to have those who like what they see shrink their C drive by by about 50 Gigs and live happily ever after. ;)

The first post has just been updated with version 12d.
I have a few hours of time to work some more on the project tonight.

If you glimpsed over the PDF or read it then would you mind telling me if I should:

1 Include more screenshots
2 Redo the cover image
3 Work on a better title
4 Include a section (at the end) with just the commands

Thanks! :)

Use Rufus or whatever to make a limited live-usb. Boot that live-usb into MX, plug in a 2nd usb-stick and then run live-usb-maker and choose "clone" mode. This will create a full featured live-usb on the 2nd stick.

I would get this type of error when using voice recognition software for writing drafts of scripts. Eventually abandoned voice, too much time
wasted in corrections. Found it was easier to write the draft then throw it in the desk's bottom drawer for a few days, then see if it still made
sense. Will read yours again tomorrow.

You just gave me a good idea. I should include a link to the MX Linux manual!
OK, a new draft will be up in a few minutes. I just added "touch" and "stat" chapters.

Thank you for sharing. I read through your ebook. I'm sure this information will be helpful to some readers. It is generous of you to do this. At the core, you have some seriously useful ideas to hlep users reduce their risk.

The ebook needs much proofreading. It was not yet in a state worthy of being shared. It contains way too much personal opinion, paranoia, and excessive repetition. Shoot for fewer pages. You appear to have a decent command of English, but you ramble. Consider an accompanying one page cheat-sheet.

Many of the instructions and examples are too MX-centric for non-MX users. It felt like a beginner's guide for MX users to create an encrypted password file . Consider tailoring those keystroke examples into something that would be useful for users of any Linux distribution. Every Linux distribution with a GUI has a file manager and a terminal and a text editor. Make this guide's examples work all those users.

What's missing? Assessment of vulnerability and risk, discussion of encryption algorithms, the existence of versions 1 and 2 of gpg and how they are different and why that's important, most users' urgent need for backups.

Thanks,
the cheat sheet will get included last when the content is in place.
I tie the information to MX Linux on purpose. After tying many distros, I realized that most of them lack. MX Linux on the other hand is the exception.
Example. I need to empty my ./cache dir. MX Linux has a solution. I like it.
I assume that there is plenty of information out there regarding various encryption algorithms and variations of this and that. I couldn't care less. What I do care is that most people are not aware that their computer might not boot tomorrow and if that happens, they lose control over everything they have saved or created.
One of the reasons why I didn't replace my old iMac with a new one is based on the fact that it had to go to the repair shot 3 times in nine years. During that time we developed apps for the apps store and all assets were on that machine including the backend logins to developer.apple.com and developer.google.com plus a few more which I don't care to mention here.
MX Linux is a very clever distro that has the right tools, stability and support. To me it's the perfect distro. Try to set up a network with Manjaro and you will know what I mean. Try to run Timeshift in Arch Linux. I could go on and on ...
