MX 17/18 Repository: The FreeCAD Thread

We now have FreeCAD 0.18.1 available in our test repository.

FreeCAD is an open-source parametric 3D modeler made primarily to design real-life objects of any size. Parametric modeling allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters.

FreeCAD is a multiplatfom (Windows, Mac and Linux), highly customizable and extensible software. It reads and writes to many open file formats such as STEP, IGES, STL, SVG, DXF, OBJ, IFC, DAE and many others, making it possible to seamlessly integrate it into your workflow.

Some of the samples on its startup page crashed the program when I ran it using the Intel GPU in my laptop, but didn't crash when I ran it with the Nvidia GPU ( optirun freecad)

I tried installing Freecad from the Test Repo but had no luck even though the icon for freecad did appear in the start menu. But would not open when I clicked it. I went to Flatpaks and did a successful install from there..

What did you get when you tried starting the MX "freecad" from the terminal? (Besides the fancy text logo).

I installed from my local apt repo which also has the additional backported packages it needs, and it pulls them in:

The GPUs I can get it to start up on, though it will crash on the Intel one, are a Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Coffeelake 3x8 GT2) and an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti.
