Dropbox now limits to 3 devices

#1 Post by KBD »

I've just ran up against this. They are trying to push everyone into paid accounts.

I switched from Dropbox to mega.nz a couple of years ago and I've never regretted it. Their Linux sync has been flawless, as well the mobile apps!

Yeah, I got the nice little notice from Dropbox myself. I'll look into mega.nz and some others when I'm not feeling lazy.

Well, I just signed up for mega and synced some folders. Seems to work pretty darned well. It was no fuss, no muss. Nice free storage amount, too.

+ 1 for Mega works great here. Left Dropbox when they went to ext4 only file system.

Is there any integration package (Thunar (XFCE) manager) for Mega and MX 18?

Mega provides only Nautilus manager integration...

When you have installed mega you will have the repo enabled and can then install thunar-megasync:i386

I think you need to logout and in again to see it in the right click options.. IIRC.

Didn't install it this install though, I don't use it.

I liked Dropbox as it could sync easily on Linux and Windows. But there is no way I'm paying them $10 a month to install it across more than 3 devices. They only offered 2gb free storage, but that was fine as I only used it for a few select files. I've got 50 gb free storage at Box, but I don't think there is a Linux client for that. I also have 30 gb storage at Onedrive, but to get it to work on Linux looks like a PITA https://www.maketecheasier.com/sync-onedrive-linux/
I've got 117 gb storage at Google Drive from buying a Chromebook awhile back, but Google never delivered the promised Linux client.
I'll probably stick with PCloud on Linux which offers 10 free gb storage and so far has worked on Linux and Windows for me.

I use Dropbox on exactly three devices. A desktop, laptop and phone. Probably a common usage for many people. They seem to have carefully chosen the limit.
