Additionally, ther's no will to make it look 'better' (== more consistent).

MX refuses to be helped.

Not quite true. The Art Team is in the process of determining what direction to take as far as overall look of the icons to make them more consistent. This was partially spurred by your suggestion.

This was always on the to-do list. But there were other things to be done before we got to the issue of aesthetics, like sorting out the MX18 Manual and the new website. As volunteers, we do have to prioritise our time spent on MX matters. Aesthetics must come only after more substantive projects. But it is in the queue.

I started the discussion in the Dev Team non-public forum before you posted your screenshots as your 1st and 2nd posts on this forum. But I appreciate your suggestions and your interest.

@ richb: The process of determining is all good and well, but in the meanwhile, and since you are currently using Papirus, use Papirus consequently.
All needed icons are already included in Papirus icon set and if you wan't it even better, you rework a couple of them as I did.

@ FEHLix: Cry baby, cry -- but please, please STOP COMPLAINING if you have no idea what are you discussing and with whom.
You saw the Gallery and you see the solution. This is not a proposal, but a minimum needed to make MX looks consistent.

@ asqwerth: Yeah, continue discussion and philosophizing about "I don't mind using a few, as long as there are no copyright issues, since we don't know him". Papirus is free to use and open source. Making sim-links and fixing your .desktop files shouldn't have any serious copyright issues. I also don't think that the Papirus author would really mind taking 'Papirus 1' and 'Paprirus 2' icon to produce 'Papirus 3', but if that's your concern, one could easily: 1. ask the author; 2. use only the original Papirus, completely without my moded Papirus icons and it would still look much more 'finished' then it is currently.

And now, please don't try some: "Not true that nobody cares, just a question of limited time and personnel." since:
"That's why I played that 'personel', took myself some time and fixed it for you, in a professional manner ... ;)

That is part of he discussion. We do not jump to a conclusion without evaluating the best approach.

Nice. Can you send a script or a package to install your solution. That would be really kind of you.

@ richb:

Did you understand me correctly?

I never said somethin' like: Use Papirus. I've said: Use whatever you use, but use it CONSEQUENTLY. There is nothing to be discussed on that matter.
That should have been done long time ago, in that moment when the very first release ever came out.

The point is, using Adwaita/Gnome/Hicolor or Papirus is a matter of taste. Using an icon set consequently is NOT.

If you would be consequently using Adwaita/Gnome/Hicolor, MX would look 1997, but it would look good (because consequent).
If you would be consequently using Papirus, MX would look more 'modern', but it would look good (because consequent).

If you would be using Adwaita/Gnome/Hicolor or Papirus and then also include/use this:
https://mxlinux.org/official-icons/
, then MX would look bad (because inconsequent), as it is currently.

'Evaluating the best approach' is the best excuse you can bring for not understanding the basics of UI/UX and 'Design Language'?

@ fehlix:

That's what I did in January. I could only try to resend it to somebody who'll appreciate it, repackage it and (finally) roll it out as update. ;)

I fully understand. This discussion is leading nowhere. We are not on the same page obviously. We will proceed as we see fit without the acrimony you seem to adopt.
