Thanks for the tip. How do you bump up the level in the far right column? I clicked, double-clicked on the column, but nothing happens. Concerned that I might do something wrong, I left it at that.

BTW, I installed PulseAudio with the Package Installer, and what do I see afterwards? The installed app is also Alsamixer. In fact, what you refer to is Alsamixer Equaliser. I am still puzzled though, by the fact that what I originally used was Pulse Audio, called as such, with a totally different lay-out than Alsamixer. Mysteriously, PulseAudio disappeared subsequently.

No what I refer to is alsamixer. the equalizer is different.

Here are some screen shots for clarity. Use the arrow-keys to navigate and the up and down arrows to raise the levels. "M" is mute or unmute.

If you have pulseaudio installed, you may need to hit "F6" to select the hardware sound card rather than the pulseaudio virtual sound card that alsamixer will pick up by default if pulseaudio is installed.

When I click on the Alsa Mixer button as per your 1st screenshot, I get a black window with just 1 vertical bar, instead of 7. Because of this difference I have not activated F6.
Another point is that, when I look in the Package Installer, the PulseAudio check box is empty, even though I did install PulseAudio earlier on today. I am puzzled by this, I don't understand that aspect of antiX.

BTW, I clicked on the Youtube link in your signature.

the single bar is the master channel for the virtual pulseaudio sound card. you can select the underlying hardware card with the F6 button. you should then see the channels provided by your hardware, including the pre-amp setting.

What are the other controls for?

individual channels for headphones, surround sound, microphones, etc... all sorts of things. what's available depends on our hardware.

OK. I bumped the one on the far right up to max, which is 100%. Questions:
  • In the PulseAudio window I had a couple of days ago there was ahorizontal slider which I put at 100% to, although the scale went up to 150%. Is there a possibility for that anywhere, or should I reinstall PulseAudio?
  • Do you know why, after I installed Pulse Audio it does not appear in the main MENU anymore, and in the Package Installer the check box for PulseAudio is empty, even though I did not uninstall it - at this stage I don't even know how to uninstall something in antiX.
  • On my keyboard I have 3 volume buttons: mute (@F1 key), diminish (@F2), increase (@F3), but antiX does not react when I press any of them, even if I use the Fn+F1 etc. Can this be fixed or do I have to accept adjusting the volume by clicking on the tray icon and moving the slider?

I don't know, but posting the output of

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy pulseaudio pavucontrol
will tell us a lot.

well, both pulseaudio and pavucontrol are installed, so I'm not sure why pavucontrol wouldn't be in the menu.

I figured pulseaudio was installed, since you had the single channel in alsamixer.
