Problem with ethical values on Linux tracker

#1 Post by Auro Kumar Sahoo »

I found this recent post from solus, which also mentioning MX from g+ post, which is posted 4 hrs earlier. I can't verify truth but I think it should be reported to community for a discussion.

I think that this is a red herring. Searches for "linux tracker compromised" and "linux tracker malware" produced no hits.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Can we just provide a direct link to their torrent file to bypass that, or point to the archive.org torrent instead?

Below are the direct download links for each torrent vs. the "Stream a torrent" link that we are using on the mxlinux.org page

Code: Select all

http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=torrents&category=2177
...This link may be the source of the problem...can we post the direct download links shown below to somewhere that is appropriate?

The links below do not display the linuxtracker.org web page...they just download the file...

32-bit

Code: Select all

64-bit

Code: Select all

We could post the direct links but the issue is should we continue to use them? We have over 100 mirrors now... we can use archive.org, why associate ourselves with such a host if they misbehave, maybe we can even publicly dissociate from them and denounce their behavior if this is what they do (again, didn't look into the matter to verify the truth of the matter, and I do use adblockers)

I can't argue against your reasoning, Adrian. Using linuxtracker.org is a quirky process and I like archive.org. Last time I tested archive.org it was fantastically quick, so I have no objection to dropping linuxtracker.
