Re: MX-18 Feedback
To Gordon Cooper and all the tweakers/non-tweakers....
What I meant was I went from the release candidate, which had all my tweaks (syanaptic packages added, wall paler, conky, panel shortcuts, automounting the data disk...), and by doing the final synaptic update, I get to the final without having to download again, make a USB, install and re-tweak. inxi -F shows the install as final. Not that it takes that much time and effort !
But it is done.
Then I was going to do a full install on the three partitions (/, swap, and /home), but I saw the upgrade path in place described on the forum. So I gave it a shot.
So I booted int that MX-17 install, ran synaptic updates (133 in total, including some scary stuff removing some nvidia stuff), but all went well. I then could use the MXPI to add the 4.19 kernel, a reboot, and another MX-18 is born, but it has all the tweaks I had set-up in MX 17.1 over the past few months.
Like Stevo, I am always tweaking, adding packages, finding small inconveniences that can be improved, adding automation etc. Maybe I should look at those thunar special actions that are new for example.
Nothing major, stability is always a goal. Time to back up all the data to the back-up drive which I have not done in a while, and when all is set up, I will do a snapshot or a clonezilla image.

New user here.
Now I might be doing something wrong, but creating an encrypted USB install is failing on MX-18. Works fine on MX-17.
Fails with this error message on first boot:
"Preparing for passphrase first-boot reset. Reset Aborted: wrong passphrase in passphrase file"

are you using the Official Release, or a beta?Torajima wrote: Fri Dec 21, 2018 10:23 am New user here.

Re: MX-18 Feedback
I'm using the official release.
Again, I'm a newbie, so could be doing something wrong... but I tried multiple times with 18 and it failed each time. Version 17 worked the first time I tried.

Re: MX-18 Feedback
I can't duplicate that here.
My process was I took the iso, used MX-Live-USB-Maker and the encrypt checkbox, and "full-featured" mode. Again, just like mx17.
So I'm not sure what's going on. I suggest using the commanline version and see if there is any better luck.

Not sure if it matters, but I did turn on static persistence before the first boot... maybe that was causing some sort of issue.
At any rate, I've got 17 working, and that's good enough for now.

Re: MX-18 Feedback
Up to 4.19.9 now there! And apparently with a new metapackage that makes it bootable with Secure Boot! Will that work with MX if I port it over? Hmmm...sunrat wrote: Thu Dec 20, 2018 9:45 pmIn Sid now.
