Re: MX-18 Feedback

#11 Post by tascoast »

I installed MX18_x64 from a USB, after obtaining the Sourceforge direct download, creating the install medium using Live USB Maker.
I unchecked the boot splash
Used MX Tweak to uncheck single click for Thunar and Desktop and set as Horizontal Panel
set 2 rows for Windows Switcher, 11pt for the clock, appending %P to Line for am/pm indicators
Reversed Whisker Menu (Position categories next to panel button)
Checked show menu for Firefox, importing stored HTML bookmarks, added Australian Spelling and Colorful Tabs extensions, set blank for home/new tabs, deleted unwanted search engines, checked smooth scrolling
Set Thunar to show detailed list and unchecked Automatically expand columns..., set left pane as Tree View
Used Disk Manager to mount shared partitions eg. 'Data'
Unchecked Automatically resize window settings in VLC Player
Manually unchecked Show Frame in Notification Area preferences
Unchecked Power Manager show icon for Desktop use

To Do:
Add Australian Spelling/Thesaurus via Synaptic
Change windows buttons to show flat and permit drag and drop
etc
Well done and thanks

**
BTW: how do you change that Information,, that is displayed on the screen ?
ie: it's in the American Format - date format ...
yet the TZ is correctly set to Perth, AU
Same here for Melbourne, with US date format on mouse over

I enabled compositing and set a transparent image for Panel background. For this I substitute Clock for the default Orage, since Clock allows for a transparent background**. The US date format still occurs however. Not sure if there is a global setting for this one, although there hasn't been a need to adjust in the past.
*just remembered to copy over hidden file .face for user icon.
**When using a transparent Panel background image, the MX Updater wireframe default icon went to a grey square but corrects itself upon logout/login

Edit:
Have tried disabling the boot splash in Boot Options in the newly installed MX-18 a couple of times now and restarting, to no effect.
MX-18 Grub was installed per defaults to Root, Grub itself adjusted in MX-17 (since updated to MX-18 per instructions for creating additional source file)

Mouse over what? And with "information on the screen" do you mean the conky in top middle?

Mouse over=When you hover over the Panel clock and the full date is displayed,
EDIT:
My date formats all look good now. Perhaps rebooting and updating has sorted it.

keyboard is US, of course.
The date display format is determind through the selected lang-locale not through the timezone you are in.
Just logout and select your locale "Australian English, Australia" in the upper right corner to have the LANG set to en_AU.utf8
and the date will be displayed in the corresponding locale format definition.

On this laptop would not boot correctly until I added the

Code: Select all

video=SVIDEO-1:d
after the quiet line in grub , now boots normally.
The artwork and themes, login are really beautiful.
So far no issues other than conky bug already addressed.
Great job by all the antiX-MX team, really impressed.
Just an aside would not boot on my iMac 2007 vintage,
will create an iso later today that should work on it, and will update this thread then.

cheers,
