Also, can someone who tested MX-18 beta as a new install please point out how the system encryption per installer is working now. Will boot be encrypted?
I had no problem installing with encryption MX 18 b1 64 bit. (less the /boot partition as do indicated.)

Re: MX-18 beta 1 feedback
Thinkpad 600x (1999-2001)
Display Color and Audio Sound issues persist (started with antix-17 and mx-17, works properly with MX-14.4 and 16.1):
Color Problem:
- colors display as inverted/opposite -- e.g., yellow=purple, blue=green. Note: this problem doesn't happen in AntiX-core cli console interface, issue occurs only with xorg running.
$ inxi -Gxxx
Color Solution:
- sudo nano on /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- changed color depth to 16-bit by adding last line: "DefaultDepth 16"
Is there a way to have the color depth detected on install and change this automatically or semi-manually with an Fn button option in the Live boot or installer? Or some MX tool for low color resolution? Or something to get color displaying properly on ancient computers like this? Was whatever that did this before (with MX-14.4 and -16.1) removed?
Sound Problem:
- MX Select Sound: "No sound cards/devices were found"
Before Fix
$ inxi -Axxx
Sound Solution (manual):
- download latest old firmware: ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/firmware ... 29.tar.bz2 (2015-02-20)
- right click in Thunar extract here
- copy cs46xx folder
- open Root Thunar
- paste to /lib/firmware/
- open terminal "sudo modprobe -r snd-cs46xx" then "sudo modprobe snd-cs46xx"
Could this cs46xx firmware be included in the 32-bit .iso (or an MX tool created that could extract and paste the needed driver)? There are also numerous other old sound cards here in the file that might help other people with really old laptops.
After Fix:
$ inxi -Axxx
Full inxi
sudo inxi -v8 -z

Re: MX-18 beta 1 feedback
Thinkpad x60 Tablet aka x60t (2006-2007):
Boot Delay error still there! Need to implement fix from forums!
Fix (manual):
- update MX-18 to X.Org 1.19.6 as per stevo:
- viewtopic.php?f=134&t=45522
can this update be included in MX-18? It's been working fine in MX17.1 for a while.
Screen Rotation and Wacom Pen Alignment problem also persists.
Display > Rotation works correctly but the pen/mouse/pointer doesn't match the rotation making the pen useful only in non-rotated mode. I have no fix for this but it is a long-standing linux issue.
sudo inxi -v8 -z

This Tablet Rotation and Pen Alignment error also applies to the Thinkpads x61t, x200t, and x220t. Presumably others too, does anyone have a pen tablet working properly with Linux?

Re: MX-18 beta 1 feedback
General random notes on MX-18b1 32-bit testing:
MX-18 Testing Beta 1 32-bit
General:
- MX Welcome Tools icon doesn't match regular icon for mxtools, make same (also codecs).
- add AntiX-cli-cc to MX Testing Repo, if not popular apps
- LibreOffice 1:6.1.3-1~bpo9+2 from Backports might be the last 32-bit LibreOffice (no 32-bit 6.2 from TDF), be good to have it as the default (if GIMP can be newer than stable 2.10.8 vs. 2.8.22 (?) why not LibreOffice just moving to a more stable bug-fixed version?). FWIW, latest is 2018-11-30: https://downloadarchive.documentfoundat ... 1.4.1/deb/
- MX Package Installer:
- re-order tabs, Backports should be before Test repo
- Audio: add exfalso, quodlibet, maybe add old audio packages from alsa project (see 600x fix above)
- Browsers: add palemoon-nonsse2 single core to Popular apps on 32-bit for older low-spec computers (to match kernel option), Dillo, Links2 because Firefox struggles on really old computers!
- Desktop Environments: LXQT
- Development : add Bluefish
- FileManagers: add xfe
- Games: DOSBOX! ScummVM, gnugo, gnubg, pychess, triplea, etc...
- Graphics: AZpainter, LightZone, Scribus should be 1.4.7 for main popular option, 1.5.x for testing
- Office: FocusWriter
- Wallpapers: MX17, AntiX
- Window Managers: add i3, update iceWM to 1.4.3.0~pre-20181030-2 (so that sending app to workspace works properly, this has been working well for me in antiX 17.x Testing/Buster)
- add a section for Terminal apps: include the amazing AntiX-cli-cc

Re: MX-18 beta 1 feedback
There is an xserver-xorg-video-neomagic video driver in Synaptic, but maybe it's not for your chipset, or else you need to specify it in an xorg.conf type file if you have it installed and it's still using the vesa driver.Hierax_ca wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:10 pm Thinkpad 600x (1999-2001)
Display Color and Audio Sound issues persist (started with antix-17 and mx-17, works properly with MX-14.4 and 16.1):
Color Problem:
- colors display as inverted/opposite -- e.g., yellow=purple, blue=green. Note: this problem doesn't happen in AntiX-core cli console interface, issue occurs only with xorg running.
$ inxi -GxxxColor Solution:Code: Select all
Graphics: Device-1: Neomagic NM2360 [MagicMedia 256ZX] vendor: IBM ThinkPad 600X driver: N/A bus ID: 01:00.0 chip ID: 10c8:0006 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.19.2 driver: vesa resolution: 1024x768~61Hz OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 7.0 128 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 18.2.6 compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes
- MX Select Sound: "No sound cards/devices were found"
Before Fix
$ inxi -AxxxSound Solution (manual):Code: Select all
Audio: Device-1: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] vendor: IBM ThinkPad 600X/A20m driver: N/A bus ID: 00:06.0 chip ID: 1013:6003 Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.19.0-1-686-pae
After Fix:

Re: MX-18 beta 1 feedback
Thought I had commented here before. But no. Must have been writing to myself.
Hierax, many thanks for the MX-18/Thinkpad reports. There is a place for these on the MX Wiki. Meantime, will wait and see it there are any changes in the Mx-18 final release that may change the compatibility of those Thinkpads. IMHO you may be a bit hopeful with the X600, it is a old machine and perhaps has reached the end of its use by date ?
