Contemplating the the changeover from Mepis12-Beta2 to MX-14.4. I had used a live persistant version of MX-14.4,until I installed on disk in June 2015. I posted in MX Modified because of installing Kde.I have kept MX updated. In preperation to to make a new ISO, I wondered about cleaning up the "garbage". I queryed the forum for "Bleachbit". I kinda bailed on that, but tested. Saw the proposed changes to MX-User Manager. Went to the Wiki. No Tab 6, so I didn't know if the run of "Free up Diskspace" would give me a choice to Bail out or just do it.

You might want to consider holding off for another month or so. MX-15 is in development, and will be based on the current Debian Jessie stable. If you're like me and like to get your install in place and tweaked out and then use it for as long as possible (rather than updating every chance you get), that would extend the stable support considerably.

Yup, I new that, & Thanks. I was just considering a good restore point via updated current installation with the cruft cleaned up. As a completly OT question for ya UM. Were you ever on the "now defunct" at&t private news servers ? I keep remebering the name !

It just does what you ask, I'm not a fan of "are you sure?" question boxes that don't add any functionality.

Yes I was. That was ages ago. And I'd rather not remember too clearly -- I was SO raw and new and stoopid back then... and didn't even know it.

Remember Beauregard T. Shagnasty? I see him around on some of the other Usenet forums I frequent.

FWIW, the last time I ran bleachbit on my MX-14/KDE setup and let it do its thing, I lost most of my desktop settings and had to start over. Needless to say, I'm not a huge fan of bleachbit.

What I generally do is check for large files or directories using KDirStat, and figure out if those files or directories are really needed. One of the biggest space hogs is the WINE directory, followed by akonadi, which is buried in the ~/.local folder.

Thanks for the answer. Just to be clear,I would have done my "due dilligence" before proceeding. I guess it's just my inquisitive nature to ask if i'm not sure. I have a habit of RTFM.

I got all my handholding on the private grc.com server.

And yeah, it's the Ubuntu group I think I've seen BTS on most recently.
