linuxtracker.org is one of the places I'd use. It pays to know who you're dealing with. I've never had a bad .iso from there. Actually I've never had a bad .iso using torrents. I don't use them now but they are great in some situations.
The implication was that you could use BitTorrent and it didn't guarantee a good file. That's untrue. You have to have a good file in the first place. And that means using reliable tracker sites.
But even when I had a torrent .iso I always checked the MD5sum using K3b. Takes seconds.
It's the same with any download. A reliable site is the first and most important criteria.

Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Re: alpha Section 1
I know I can just check the md5sum (or shasums) using the command line, but being the lazy person I am, I usually just install the small program, gtkhash, to do it via a simple GUI.
The filebrowser window that opens for you to select a file will always display the most recent modified files, so it's very convenient.
If I'm not mistaken, there is a Thunar plugin for gtkhash so you could right click on a file and check its hash sum under "Properties".

Krusader has a built-in hash checker. Does several. MD5 and SHA among them.

Re: alpha Section 1
Wouldn't that bring in KDE dependencies?
