If you search Synaptic for virtualbox, it finds version 4.2.16. The information on the lower part of the screen tells you what else is needed.

Since my last post, I have installed a virtual XP, and all works as expected.

Tried for a day on the two latter ones to find something that worked but nope.
As far as I know, launch feedback is not available with Xfce. It's one of the omissions that keeps it lean.

A picture frame, and a moon phase display would both be possible using Conky; it's not a point-and-click type of application however! I'm sure in time someone here would be able to help with this - I don't have an intimate knowledge of the program sadly.

Remember MX-14 is in its very early stages - second Beta of something completely new to Mepis/antiX - so I'm sure there will be a lot more good things coming!

I am not familiar with kmoon but I use the gkrellm moon clock. You can installed it via the gkrellmoon package.

GKrellM is a system monitor like Conky. Perhaps it is showing its age but it is usually one of the very first apps I install because without it it feels like I'm flying blind. If you don't want all of the monitors, you can disable everything and just enable the moon clock. I use a transparent theme (Pseudo transparency) which makes it look like the moon is just floating on your desktop (if everything else is disabled).

It has plenty of other tricks. I've attached a small tarball that contains 3 slightly different invisible themes. I have almost 200 themes installed but I much prefer the invisible themes because they work well with almost any bg image.

Here is a screen shot of it next to the default panel with everything turned off except the moon clock. AFAIK, the size of the moon clock is not adjustable.

GKrellM: looking good that moon! Thanks for the screenshot. Definitely need to look into that one. Can it run next to conky without issues? I have just finished configuring that, so.. heh. Hate to lose it.

Code: Select all

Should I open a separate thread for the printing and apt notifier?
I've also seen the apt-notifier segfaults listed in syslog with Mepis 11 & 12. I'm not sure what causes it, the notifier seems to work okay in spite of the segfault.

Yes. I use both. No problem. The nice thing about GKrellM is that there is no config file to edit; it is all done via a GUI. OTOH, it is not nearly as flexible as Conky. OTOOH, I think GKrellM looks better OOTB.

It works, thanks! One thing I would like to know is how to increase the size, not just the width, but the size of the moon basically, do you know how to do that?
edit: asked via PM, avoids clutter

*continues fiddling, happy with the new system*

I also find gkrellm useful. Not for the moonphase but for the reminder plugin. Events can be set for every x number of days (not just weekly, monthly etc), plays music as a reminder (in addition to a popup) and you can reset the reminder for x hours later on the fly to keep reminding you until it gets done. It's a very pleasant nag. Thanks for the transparent themes.

*edit* The transparent themes you posted are not transparent here (on refracta xfce). Are they transparent only for the moonclock?
