MX-14 beta 2
Re: MX-14 beta 2
Thanks, Anti---
Found it and ran it. It finally asked for a code. Is that a password, or what? Anyway, I exited via the instruction and nothing seems different. No Samba.
Damn, I feel stupid.

Is it just an error when exiting the metainstaller?anticapitalista wrote:Just ignore that message
Running dpkg -C, and dpkg -l in another terminal, it looks like samba installed okay:

Re: MX-14 beta 2
I couldn't find it either. But stumbled on it using the search bar at the top of the menu.muskt wrote:If your post was for me (Jerry in Anchorage), I can locate no information on "metapackage-installer" that seems to apply to MX-14.
In my mind, it would be more intuitive for it to be found under System. In fact, on the web site's screenshots, it looks like that's where it ought to be.

That location is driven by the desktop application file from the developer. It can be changed by the user, but will get overwritten by the next upgrade.
That's why I find that top search box so useful...don't have to know where things are.

Re: MX-14 beta 2
I just learned of this new distro. Can you tell me what it's (going to be) like or give me an information link?
Re: MX-14 beta 2
If I continue at this (trying to learn Linux), in 8 or 10 years (if I live that long), I may just get to join the club, & learn the secret handshake (as well as the secret language/terminology used).

It occurred a couple of days age. No new numbering (except for the 2nd or 3rd decimal place on the download server)--nothing confusing about that(embedded sarcasm)--Beta 2a might have helped.

Re: MX-14 beta 2
Screenshot #3 on the web page implies that it's under System. At least that's how I read it. Not bitching, just pointing out what could be a souce of confusion. It got me.Jerry3904 wrote:That location is driven by the desktop application file from the developer. It can be changed by the user, but will get overwritten by the next upgrade.
