Re: MX-14 beta 2
Choosing configure printers via cups from the menu throws an error as it looks for midori.

Installing Samba via metapackage-installer...solves the problem...but still needs to be fixed in the default install, obviously.chrispop99 wrote:

Re: MX-14 beta 2
I've shifted to the desktop for faster typing.
Only tried on netbook so far. One quirk on live boot (as with previous versions) - first attempt gives blank screen with cursor. Second attempt boots fine. I've had no hardware problems with any version on the netbook.
Wireless - will test later (I'll have to take it to the pub). No NVIDIA on the netbook.
Browser - QupZilla is fast and clean, but YouTube videos don't play. SMplayer doesn't work either. I will investigate more.
Grub-customizer - looks good, but some changes have unexpectedly large effects. I won't use it on the netbook, but will test later on desktop.
Disk-manager - Not sure what I would use this for. Interesting quirk - when opened, the bottom left buttons say 'Edit' 'Demonter'. When a partition is selected, the 'Demonter' changes to 'Unmount'.
Synaptic - installed 3 upgrades. Set Preferences to 'Prefer Mepis' - holds and survives reboot.
Panel - I like this clean version, and the Menu structure. I needed to increase the default height of the first menu window to show the whole menu.
Thunar - 'Find files here' is stunningly fast on the netbook, including files 2 levels down. Unlike beta 1, I can browse shared network NTFS files with no problem.
I've set Claws Mail up with my travelling address and it is much snappier than my previous solutions. This applies to almost everything in this beta - I'm thinking I have no need to upgrade the RAM.

Installing Samba from the meta-installer did not solve this problem on my network. smbtree can see the shares just fine. I can connect with direct addressing no problem, but browsing is broke.

Re: MX-14 beta 2
YouTube videos play fine IF you uncheck to make Flash require a click in Preferences; and SMplayer (which I really don't like!) needs you to go into settings, where VLC is already selected, then say OK.Gaer Boy. YouTube videos don't play. SMplayer doesn't work either.

'direct addressing' meaning you need to type 'smb://[ip address]' or 'smb://[share name]' in Thunar path window (or whatever it's called)?dolphin_oracle wrote:pcallahan80 wrote:Installing Samba via metapackage-installer...solves the problem...but still needs to be fixed in the default install, obviously.chrispop99 wrote:

Re: MX-14 beta 2
Thanks. I don't like SMplayer either, but I was trying alternatives. After making your adjustments, I can play YouTube videos either way, but I need to double-click in the video to start it in both cases. Clicking anything else has no effect.Jerry3904 wrote:YouTube videos play fine IF you uncheck to make Flash require a click in Preferences; ans SMplayer (which I really don't like!) needs you to go into settings, where VLC is already selected, then say OK.Gaer Boy.
