Try installing ia32-libs-gtk to get GE up and running.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Used UNetbootin to create an USB stick, 11.9.92-64. I took a couple of hours to do. Not sure why it took so long.

Installed on my HP-DV4 without any problems. Bluetooth, wireless and everyother item seem to pickup just fine. What I did notice, is my GRUB menu is missing the entry for my Windows 8. I've poked around the files and searched the internet for some help, but it looks like it is going to need the UID number? The menu does have my recovery partition on it, but I would like to add the real partition to get to Windows.

Any simple way to add this?

Going to start to add some packages and play around.

Right click on a partition in Gparted, choose information, and it will show the UUID #

or from the Konsole

su -c blkid

I tried "update-grub" and it found the partition and added to the menu.

I was hoping it would be this easy. Going to have to learn this new grub menu and the UUID stuff.

This doesn't have anything to do with the beta, but I was trying to set up konsole and there was a post sometime a go by Brook, I think, that shows you how to make the text red when you change from normal user to su. Tried to search the forums, but I'm coming up with a blank.

Not crazy about the white background that comes with the beta. That's easily changeable.

Do not use unetbootin to make a bottable key.
After getting everything working and working very well indeed on this new system I popped the key in and re did it using the Mepis usb key maker and problem solved.

bootable key times are now as one would expect in both booting and installing.

Has anyone try the talking clock yet? It seems jovie still has unresolved bugs?
I installed the kdeaccessiblity package to see it that helps, but instead of the time, I get a voice telling me that i have voice synthesis working and to read some log file.

I did a fresh install over my upgraded system due to some unresolved bugs, and this time am just using the xorg Radeon drivers for the integrated ATI chipset. HD video playback seems better, and the open GL performance seems about the same at the drivers built by sgfxi, with less hassle. I used the isohybrid method to create a USB key, but had to add the "fromhd" cheat to the boot line to get it to boot correctly. Google Earth from Google installs and works fine after it installs 140 packages on 64-bit.

Has anyone else with a problem Android 4.X device tested connectivity with the new kio-mtp/libmtp9 in the test CR? I think Warren should add it to the release, as it's tiny and adds functionality.

Open Dolphin as root,
> root, Show Hidden Files, Backup bashrc, open bashrc with Kwrite and edit, as per the picture,
the lines you need to edit is in both instancess is.PS1, replace with the code below.

Code: Select all

PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[01;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]\$ '
You can also use a wallpaper as the background, and setup a theme by editing the current profile in konsole, as below

I thought it was in the Wiki - might have been in the old forums - I couldn't find it either.

Here's what was in my notes:
2. As root navigate to /root folder and create new file .bashrc
Add following line -

Code: Select all

export PS1="\[\e[1;31m\]\u[\w]\\$ \[\e[m\] "
This makes my root text red in a konsole.

3. Create new file .bashrc in your own /home/yourusername directory
Add following line -

Code: Select all

export PS1="\e[1;32m\u[\w]\\$ \e[m "
This makes my text green (as normal user) in konsole
Not sure if it still works the same - I have no MEPIS install any more to test. I was waiting for 12 to show some signs of going final before trying it in vbox - but I've given up waiting. This current 'cycle' unfortunately reinforces to me the state of MEPIS. It's a pity really - he had offers of plenty of help from a lot of people when I was still around. He chose not to take advantage of them. It's no wonder so many people left, and so many others are using a different distro.

For anyone wondering - I went back to Windows, am currently using 8 - and have no regrets. I still miss KDE, and will no doubt go back again (probably Debian or Kubuntu) when it suits. In the meantime - the machine 'just works' - and better, I can work from home (connect with our server) without jumping through hoops.

I really hope you guys get some more action from WW soon. So much promise ...... such a waste of potential.

I still call into the forums a couple of times a week to see what is happening. It's nice to see that a lot of the hard-core community has stayed on.

 To the dark side. Kind of like Napoleon joining the Royal Navy.

Seriously, nice to hear from you. Just tried your console suggestion in Kubuntu and it works, so it should be distro neutral..
