I'm reading "the whining" as an unarticulated constructive comment. It shows the dedication to this second home. When you first move around the furniture it feels alien, but after a few days you don't remember how it was before.
Mepislovers was tweaked and worked on for many years. The new forum has only been up for a few days and see how much richb and peregrine have achieved already. Imagine what it will be like in another two years!

Thank you so much!
Rich, I did not even notice the new forum software until a day or two after it changed, but I am completely supportive of whatever the leaders choose to do. For me, though, it's an added plus: I happen to like the way the phpBB software works, and so far, I am quite pleased with the way that things have turned out.richb wrote:And to add, we are always open to constructive comments and criticism with detail. The emphasis is on constructive. "I do not like it", does not help us much to make improvements.
I am not complaining, as it was a labor of love, but this has turned into a full time job for us for the past several days, (and the pay is lousy).Believe me if we just wanted to change for the sake of change, we would not have lifted a finger.
I want to publicly thank, not only you, but all the administrators and those who work behind the scenes. This community has long had one of the best, if not the best distribution community forum. The combination of this forum and the wisdom of Warren Wordford make the MEPIS offerings hard to beat. I sincerely thank each one of you!

Re: New Forum Comments
The "Thanks" button disappears after four thanks or less. Can this be changed? And moves to the middle of the line after one "Thanks". See attached example (or the first two posts in this thread).

I believe the number of thanks is limited to overcome a side scrolling problem caused when the list of thanks gets too wide. PCMIIW

Re: New Forum Comments
Nothing wrong with that. But isn't it a little bit random? This "Thanks" button disappeared after one thanks (I'm not writing this to get more). And see the position of the "report" button. What is it doing alone in the middle?I believe the number of thanks is limited
Or is it a time limit instead of number of thanks? Could explain it.

Re: New Forum Comments
I really don't know. And those moving buttons are quirky, aren't they? It seems as soon as thanks appear, the buttons move. Not a biggie, though.

Re: New Forum Comments
@Utopia. No time limit on thanks, there is on rep. You cannot thank yourself, that is why your posts have no thanks button.
@ arjaybe. Not quirky, the buttons left justify to the thanks report. That is why it appears in the middle. We could disable the thanks report in the post You could click the number of thanks in your Avatar block, and see what posts were thanked for, but if we remove reporting you would not know by whom.
You both may recall this came up during the test phase.
I do not know if there is a mod to justify right, or if the code can be changed. But it is not a priority.

I tried to give you a thanks, that's how I found the first missing button. Do you have to compete and be among the first four to use it?@Utopia. No time limit on thanks, there is on rep.
And giving yourself a thanks would be nice when you have one of those brilliant thoughts that no one else understands.

Well then that is a major problem.Utopia wrote:I tried to give you a thanks, that's how I found the first missing button. Do you have to compete and be among the first four to use it?@Utopia. No time limit on thanks, there is on rep.

I will try to duplicate it. (by giving you thanks, twice).

Re: New Forum Comments
What happens if you give one user a thanks is that the button turns into a thumbs down, so you can remove the thanks. You cannot give thanks twice to the same post. I did not see the button disappear, and thumbs up is still on all of your other posts.
