Update error

#1 Post by DeJay »

Gatting this update error (KDE desktop if it helps). I KNOW it's Brave browser. I installed Brave to try, didn't need it and uninstalled it, next update this message appeared;

W: An error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com stable InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 0686B78420038257
E: https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com stable InRelease is not (yet) available (The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 0686B78420038257)

I reinstalled Brave, allowed it to update and got no error, I allowed it to update the next couple of times and uninstalled it again. Got the message at the next update. Apart from keeping Brave installed, any ideas of how this can be correcred please?

I noticed a couple of things in your QSI:
-- you should be using the AHS (Advanced Hardware Systems) version of MX with a machine that new. Use Repo Manager --> Individual Sources tab, to enable the AHS repo and then run any updates that become available.
-- again, because your laptop is still fairly new, I think that you should use MXPI to install one of the Liquorix kernels available. You may have to experiment a bit to get the best fit and either the 6.5.xxx or 6.6.xxx would be a good starting point. The default Debian 6.xxx.xxx kernels have proven to be a bit buggy with late model computers.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Try this:
Open terminal as normal user and run:
First purge . in case some conf-file left:

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge brave-browser
and

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge brave-keyring
followed by

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-release.list

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
That should fix the issue.

I was led to believe that KDE is already AHS enabled. In any case, it has been working perfectly well apart from a couple of minor update issues, since November last year. So it stays as it is. I am a firm believer in "if it ain't bust, don't fix it".

Thank you both. I will mark the thread as solved, assuming it is, after the next update.
