@3nd

Code: Select all

Sensors:
  System Temperatures: cpu: 57.0 C mobo: N/A
  Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A
If that's the idle temperature, I think that, over time, your laptop's cpu's temperature increases to the point where it partially shuts down in an act of self-preservation. This scenario would answer why you are eventually reduced to a terminal session.

You later say that in those instances where the laptop is running via its power brick, that this problem doesn't happen. Does its fan run at a slower rate when on battery power as opposed to wall socket power? You should be able to hear the difference.

We can see from the date on the bios that your laptop is at least fourteen years old. I think that you should open it up, clean out any dust, and replace the thermal paste and then see if the problem has disappeared.

Note: that if the laptop had gone into hibernation or to sleep, you would not initially be able to see the cursor or its movement.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Menu => "MX Tweak" : "Other" tab : "Use Intel instead of modesetting ... " ... Apply , reboot.

(Yes, though it's already Intel :) )

Btw. What a nice Avatar, (the logo part), colors and MX label on it etc.. Even better than the official logo :biggrin:

(I wish it was not blinking :D )
