when I want to do this, I use live-usb-maker to target my hard drive and use it live from there.LinuxSpring1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:17 am Thanks @fehlix . That helped to clear up a lot of items. @8bit was right there was confusion going on between live version of MX Linux and the non-live version of MX Linux. Your screenshots showed that this is available in the Live version of MX Linux.
Is there a way to get this into the non-live version of MX Linux which typically most of us have? i.e. we have systems which are installed on the drive/disk of our computer and not on a USB stick.
or do a "frugal" install, which will put the live system in a directory on the disk but will run like the live.
the installed system cannot load into ram. its just not the right sort of filesystem.
if you could load an installed system into ram, you likely wouldn't want to. its the difference between copying 1 large file into ram (a live squashfs file) and 3 million small files. it would take forever.
