Trouble Updating MX19

So, just resurrected one of my first MX installs: MX-19, "Patito Feo".

Ran an update yesterday, a total of 397 updates!

Tried again today, and it showed that 64 updates were available, but all the update produced were errors, mainly with the Repo location. I fixed that: Repo location is now Salt Lake City, Utah. I also checked that all the relevant MX and Debian Repos were checked, using the Repo Manager.

However, I'm still getting errors, and none of the updates went thru.

Update:

Just checked MXPI on the MX19 install, and it shows under "Kernels" 2 unchecked boxes:

1. Debian 4.19-- patched for "Meltdown"
2. Debian 5.10-- latest from the MX repo

I should probably check one of those, no?

MX-19 has been end-of-life for nearly a year. Any update you may install for that distro is lucky at best and obsolete at worst.

Will do a fresh install of one of my MX23.6 installs.

This brief excursion into my recent Project in Futility has taught me a valuable lesson:

It's not just about getting the code to work; it's also about maintaining it !!!

Upon reflecting on some recent posts to the Forum, I have learned that, yes, we can ask for all sorts of functionality, and might be able to somehow get it to work.

But the question is:
Who will put in the (the probably wasted) time and effort to maintain this functionality?

So, I basically wasted only a few hours trying to get this old system up and running (clean). I guess I just wanted to see if I knew enough about MX-Linux...

Well, now I know more

If you *really* needed to keep this system alive (without upgrading) you could at least get security updates through the Extended Long Term Support repositories. They intend to support Debian 10 "buster" until 2029-06.
