MX updater glitch? [Solved]
MX updater glitch?
I Just installed a fresh version of MX Linux 23.5. The Updater Icon shows up in the system tray but will not automatically show the updates available as before. I know this because when I right click the Icon and "check for available updates" I will get them. I am wondering if this is just a glitch or if this is the way we have to check for updates in this new roll out? Is anyone else noticed this? and if it is not normal how could I fix it?

The "MX Updater" would normal show the available "updates" ( in real the number of package upgrades), but only after the package lists have been refreshed.rc racer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 5:58 pm I Just installed a fresh version of MX Linux 23.5. The auto refresh of package list in the background is done once a day, and would normally run at the morning at about 7:00 .. 7:30.
Or any time later in the day if the PC was not turned on at that time.
So you either wait until the auto-refresh get triggered or refresh manually.
If still not, we might need to find the reason why it won't run automatically.

Re: MX updater glitch?
In addition to Felix options
1 double click the MX-Update Icon on the tool bar = this opens Synaptic - also shown if right click the same icon
2 at the bottom of the right click same icon is "Reload MX-Updater" either or open synaptic and top left click "Reload"
and or Bottom click the Reload MX-Updater
any of these should refresh a "Check for Updates Request" for your Desktop out too the updating Server direct or mirror sites also privileged to service Updates
and perform a new update check at this now time you testing this. Same as to believe possibly the cron for doing so stayed asleep.
Found Running MX-23.5-ahs as host with Virtualbox and a same MX-23.5 as guest. See to always since started with MX VBox updates 1st prior to the Host.
So I found to test these same process and works to provide necessary updates. Nothing really is wrong. Simply push the request via these "Check for Updates"
and or Reload MX-Updater This does references /etc/apt/sources.list.d/MX-List , debian.list , and , debian-stable-updates.list
Note: any of your own Particular Apps on install will usually add its own file into this folder and or 1 folder up to /etc/apt/source.list append to this or its own APPnamed.list file which anything in gets referenced to secure updates. via all the mirrors providing secure updates.
caveat to that is it may but MX likes it in the sources.list.d folder as to accompany the 3 mentioned.
Cheers.
