Problems installing vpn for work (systemd error)  [Solved]

#1 Post by radissthor »

Hi all,

I have to install a vpn software to access content for my work from home. The software is called pulse secure. I checked their webpage but there is no documentation. I know for a fact the software works with linux because I made it work on another laptop running MX.

However, when trying to install, I get the following error:

Code: Select all

I looked for the error on the web, but I only found advices specifically for certain software. Nothing I could try (at least not with my knowledge). Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Code: Select all

Boot with systemd in grub's advanced options submenu then try the installation again. If that fixes the issue you can select it as the default in MX Boot Options. If that doesn't help you'll need to contact Pulse Secure for assistance.

Thanks JayM. It did work! Is there any significant difference between booting with the default method and with systemd?

I had a similar issue with my VPN software from OVPN. It didnt work in sysvinit environment, but fine in systemd. So I have been running in systemd for a year now. I have not experienced any difference running MX when booted with systemd.

Many vpn apps don't provide sysV scripts nowadays, only systemd scripts. Fehlix knows how to add the necessary scripts for sysV, and some of the more common vpn services are in MXPI popular apps, bundled with the requisite sysV script.

I have nordvpn, and it's in MXPI with the necessary sysv script

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

That's good to know. Unfortunately the vpn I have to use is not in the MXPI. I'm not surprised, as it seems to be for company and university use rather than individual users.

FYI. I dont know if the OVPN-company has done something after I mentioned to them that their app didnt work in sysvinit or if something has changed in debian, but it works fine now.
