HDMI option not showing in audo mixer output devices

#1 Post by reidun »

Hello, I'm trying to connect my MX23 Dell Inspiron 3780 laptop to a projector. When I plug the HDMI cable in on both ends, the picture goes through fine, but the sound doesn't. In the Pulse Audio Volume Control Output Devices tab, there is no option for HDMI in the Port dropdown. I restarted the laptop with the HDMI plugged in thinking maybe it would pick it up that way, but I still only get "Speakers" and "Headphones" as choices. What do I need to do to fix this? I have Googled and searched the forum and haven't come up with any solutions that work for MX. I'm running MX-23.5_x64 Libretto.

I should also note that we plugged the same projector in with the same cord to a Windows laptop and the sound came through fine.

Thanks for your help!

In soundmixer configuration tab it's off be default on my end. Must select a profile in the dropdown for it to work.

Solved: HDMI option not showing in audo mixer output devices

#6 Post by reidun »

Thank you! I did not realize there was another tab in the Volume Control. I chose Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output and it works fine now.

Thanks very much!
