Mdadm question  [Solved]

#1 Post by GerardV »

My desktop pc with MX Linux KDE installed failed, most likely a faulty power supply.
I had made a Snapshot some time ago and installed that successfully on an old Lenovo T420 Thinkpad.
But i keep getting this startup error " mdadm No arrays found in config file or automatically" which repeat itself for a good 30 second before continuing and starting successfully.
Anything i can do about that?

Code: Select all

sudo update-initramfs -uk all
Reboot.

... If still the same:

Press E when on Grub , go throughthe bottom with the arrow keys change this

ro quiet resume=UUID=xxx resume_offset=15808512 splash
to

Code: Select all

ro quiet noresume nosplash
(nosplash is not a must but while you're at it, to see the boot process )

finally press F10 to go on boot.

If that works we'll go on to make it permanent or to change those resume parameters according to the current state.

Btw. your default kernel seems to be old:

To enable its auto-updating:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update ; sudo apt reinstall linux-headers-amd64 linux-image-amd64 -y

If you don't need them purge both cryptsetup used by initramfs and mdadm:

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge cryptsetup-initramfs mdadm
By this you won't get any of those mdadm scan warnings neither cryptsetup warning.

Meanwhile, do you have any invalid / old entries ( like UUID=183c393d-89fa-4213-8b6b-9d0cf0d54d54 ) in /etc/fstab or /etc/crypttab ?

(If so, remove them, you can see all current partitions' uuids and compare with lsblk -f )

The UUID is identical in lsblk-f and /fstab
