I managed to start it with another LIVE, I don't find in Windows how to turn of Fast Startup
Temporarily hold Shift-key and click on Shutdown/poweroff.
Also note: In doubt it sometimes better to poweroff instead of reboot, this b/c otherwise UEFI may still keep some setting in memory, and may not fully initialize UEFI as from cold start.

I see
-Boot in normal mode
-Boot in grub2 mode
-File checksum
That is a Ventoy menu. Choose 'Boot in normal mode' to get to MX Linux.

FWIW the exact text is 'Switch to Grub Bootloader' on the MX Linux BIOS (boot) mode screen. Below is the Boot Recue Mode menu presented when the PC is booted in BIOS mode.

Excellent point. What exists currently in my guide - 'Dual Boot: MX Linux & Windows-Installation Guide‘ updated December 29, 2024
FullScale4Me wrote: 3.8 Turn off Windows Fast Startup

1. Left click the start button and type 'CMD' in the search box.
2. In the search results click on 'Run as Administrator'.
3. Click 'Yes' to the question: 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?'
4. Type 'powercfg /h off' and press enter. See footnote below 1
Restart your PC...do NOT select Shut down and power back on!
NOTE: on some PCs not turning this OFF will interfere with the WiFi functionality in MX Linux.

Windows Update may turn it back on!

Well,
Following the instructions, I was able to boot Windows, disable Fast Startup.
Now I still have no dual-boot, and Mx-Linux starts on startup (but this may not be a problem anymore, having established that Windows exists and works). :worship:

One problem remains:
I managed to get the NFTS (Windows) partition, which I will use for all my data, to automatically mount, using Disk of Ubuntu (simple and straightforward app) but this required always sudo password.
How can I fix this?

Thank you for your patience and helpfulness.

Disk Manager lets you choose which partitions you want mounted at startup.

*I always create a separate 'data' partition for common use, but that's just what I feel most comfortable with, in multi-boot systems.

Unmount it in that app and instead use the MX Disk Manager to mount it. You will then get ownership and permissions.

The MX app automatically takes care of permissions by adding 'magic bits' to the fstab file that are beyond my pay grade.

To me, it's far easier to trust the app that gets the full job done!

Point of order: Disk Manager only supports some file systems.

I'm against making minestrone of software from differents distros, but Disk of Ubuntu have a simple GUI which allows you to set auto mount quickly and with a simple click. My first linux experience was Ubuntu and , with each distribution I always had to use Disk-Ubuntu, because I never found a simple way for auto mount.
Maybe I'm wrong but MX Disk Manager doesn't have that option either...

however mysteriously, after a few reboots it doesn't even ask me for the sudo password anymore, without any intervention. :winner:

Now, to set definitely "Solved" this thread titled "Dual boot...", is there a possibility to set up dual boot without the “trick” of using USB Live to be able to access Windows?

Grub Repair in MX Tools or just via CL is the usual approach.
