23.4 ahs failed to build 6.12 kernel module on update

#1 Post by stucash »

I know that 6.12 is not going to work for my card for now (4070 Super) and I wrote about it here: viewtopic.php?p=802663#p802663

I also read Oracle's notice on 6.12 coming to ahs as well: https://mxlinux.org/blog/6-12-kernel-ro ... vers-sigh/

But my issue isn't that the 6.12 causing X to fail; the 6.12 was failed to build during dist-upgrade at:
Building module:
Cleaning build area...
'make' -j28 NV_EXCLUDE_BUILD_MODULES='' KERNEL_UNAME=6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64 modules.......(bad exit status: 2)
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64 (x86_64)
This kind of made sense in that I am using proprietary driver from NVIDIA directly (the MIT version from the driver run file).
For me the default was the auto-updates for liquorix is turned on; is there a way to turn it off until we have stable driver from MX package installer, for newer NVIDIA cards?

And, can I remove the 6.12 header and image such that it stopped building kernel every time I have an update?

I've stopped updates for linux-image-liquorix-amd64 and linux-headers-liquorix-amd64 with apt-mark hold, but it seems it only prevents future updates for these packages.

Re: 23.4 ahs failed to build 6.12 kernel module on update

yes.

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge linux-image-6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64 linux-headers-6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64
this should also remove the auto-updates metapackages.

I think there is a 565 driver that does build on 6.12. I don't know if it works, but it does build.

Thanks @dolphin_oracle !

It seems that linux-image-liquorix-amd64 now depends on the 6.12.8-1:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
linux-headers-liquorix-amd64 : Depends: linux-headers-6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64 (= 6.12-10~mx23ahs) but it is not going to be installed
linux-image-liquorix-amd64 : Depends: linux-image-6.12.8-1-liquorix-amd64 (= 6.12-10~mx23ahs) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
Do I remove linux-image-liquorix-amd64 and linux-headers-liquorix-amd64 directly? i.e.,

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge linux-image-liquorix-amd64 linux-headers-liquorix-amd64
for the 565 driver that works, even if I find it, there's a chance that x fails and I'll have to apply one of the workarounds to get X to work for now right? I think I'll try it when I have a chance, but thanks for the information!

the purge operation should remove those metapackages as well, but you can add them to the list to purge.

I would remove the kernel before trying to install any new drivers.

Thank you and I forgot to unhold the image and headers packages; removing the hold the purge command sequence worked.
